Kyle Efaw can't remember what class he was sitting in on Boise State's campus eight years ago, but he says he'll never forget what his roommate was scratching out on a notepad.

Efaw's roommate was Kellen Moore, the quarterback who will make his first NFL start Sunday for the Cowboys.

Efaw: "What are you doing over here?"

Moore: "You know, this would be good against Cover 2."

"This guy's just over here, drawing concepts out on a notepad," said Efaw, a tight end who was a teammate of Moore's for four seasons at Boise State. "He just did that for fun. He's just always thinking about football.

"He kind of blows you out of the water with the amount of stuff he knows and the way he thinks."

I am going to believe in guys like this.

That was a long article, and good read, you should read whole thing , but I found this telling.

""He's got a lot of those intangibles that you can't coach. It's him. It's who he is. It's what he's made up of."
In Moore's four years as the starter, Boise State went 50-3, losing twice to TCU by a point and to Nevada by three in overtime. During those four seasons, Moore completed 70 percent of his passes for 14,667 yards, 142 touchdowns and only 28 interceptions.

As a sophomore, he led the Broncos to an undefeated season, capped by a 17-10 Fiesta Bowl win over TCU. As a junior, Moore finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting.""

He only lost 3 times, 2 by one point to TCU, and once in OT by a FG!
That is about as close to unbeaten as a person could get.

To me this guy in the winning area, and his demeanor and even the size, he reminds me of Joe Montana.
Joe would always win , and many games were close but Joe always came out the winner.

Joe had it in college and he had it in the pros, so I am thinking this Kellen Moore , he has it too, he just needs to show it in the pros.

I saw some things in that first game that I liked, some that I didnt, so really curious to see how he does
Sunday.

I think Dez not playing will help him, if butler plays instead.

The main thing I want to see is him look around, dont stare down one guy and throw, look till you find someone open
and then run or throw away if nothing there.

In the jets game on endzone pass to dez , he stared down dez looked nowhere else, and to his right, if he had just took a
quick look,he would have seen that the guy covering cole had fell down and beasley was wide open .

He should know the defenses, so it is just a question of looking around and doing the right thing, dont force things.
YOu have a whole game dont try to win it in first qtr.

This guy could be the next Tony Romo or P. Manning, he is just going to have to show he can get it done in pros.

Linehan likes him, and is one who got him in Detroit and then here.
Moore would have started way back around game 3-5 if it was up to linehan.
Had they done that it might be playoffs for dallas in 2 weeks.

I think he has the "it" factor , but dont know if he can show enough in these last 2 games or not.
Plus jones boys are already saying no matter how Moore plays they want someone else next year lol, so
this could be moore auditioning for the other teams, so it would be funny if we gave away the next Joe Montana.

yeah, and now it is maybe cold and rain in buffalo, so hope he is good with wet ball.
And Rex wants to win this game, so it is going to be a tough first start.
I would love to see Dallas with moore beat the crap out of Buffalo, like 31-10

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, guys. Easy now.

Lets see what he shows this Sunday and next.

We got a bunch of people that had "winner" written all over Jason Garrett because of this and that . . . . . . . .

We've the got OP of this thread already declaring KM a "winner" and he believes in these guys. He said the same about Red. 5 yrs in, and he's still believing and declaring it.

Life and sports both teach us to let things play out and then make a determination.

Can we at least wait for 2 weeks to see what he shows before we make any Joe Montana comparisons are declare the guy a "winner?"

Some people are so thirsty, they'll drink sand and think it's water.

How many times has this fan base dreamed of greatness from someone unknown.

And even when they hit gold, did it amount to anything in the trophy case?

Predictable in this instance is the reaction about a guy who is too small, has a poor arm, and can put up stats that don't truly amount to much if the team doesn't win.

Maybe the league will give out trophies to the losers. Because we're all winners in Jerry's World.

I can wait, it is all speculation right now and no harm in speculating positively ??
I checked, and moore is 3 inches shorter than derek carr who is 6'3 and 15 pounds lighter.
That makes them about the same body wise, as moore is shorter.
They both have 9 1/2 inch hands 31 inch arms, so they are very similar except the 3 inches in height.

Now those 3 inches may help carr a little , but I dont think 3 inches is that big of a difference.
they both are short for NFL.
Carr has started for 2 years now and has done fairly good. Oakland sees him as their franchise QB.

Carr and Kellen both had football families, and were studious of the game itself, the technical aspects.
It helped carr to be smarter and know football so well and same for kellen.

I would compare to wilson, but wilson has the running ability, and is more stoutly built. his hands are 10 1/4
and he is 5'11 and 204 although I think he may weigh more than that now, he looks heavier now.

I think wilson may not be as good a pocket passer, but better on the run or roll out than carr or kellen.
and his run ability is big, but sometimes he doesnt or isnt allowed to use it.

They say kellen has slow feet and cant throw good on the run, so I dont know about that.

Romo
6 ft 2 in 230 lb 32 in 95⁄8 in 32 inch arms
so tony is 2 inches taller which again does not give him much better vision, and the 230 lbs may be too much for his height,
but he is a little heftier.

but all said , I need to see more myself, I just am thinking he has a knack for winning , which many qb dont have even though they
have a better bigger body.

Many people said russel was too short to be a nfl QB and many teams passed on drafting him in 1st and 2nd rounds

Well In 2013, he led the Seahawks to its first ever Super Bowl victory, and in 2014, led them to a second straight Super Bowl berth.

Wilson has won more games (45) than any other NFL quarterback in his first four seasons, and is currently the second highest rated NFL passer of all time behind Aaron Rodgers.
On July 31, 2015, Wilson signed a four-year, $87.6 million contract extension with the Seahawks, making him at the time the second highest paid player in the NFL.

So a whole lot of teams, gm's HC's and fans were wrong about Russell.
I was for him since his first season, and he is the main reason I became a Seattle fan, except when they play dallas.

Since dallas is now out, I am pulling for Seattle to make another SB.

I'm not expecting Payton Manning, but I'm looking forward to seeing if the guy can play at this level. He's got a shot.

The chances are slim. So what? It's still fun to watch to see if he can figure things out with a very limited opportunity.

142 TD's to 28 INT's in college against college players....that is a 5 / 1 ratio.
And a 1 / 3 ratio start in the NFL against NFL talent....
ok not a good comparison, as many QB's start their NFL career that way. Tony threw picks, Aikman threw a lot too.

But as many players from college, especially smaller programs, come to find out quickly, it is an entire new experience. Some adapt, some don't
But Moore also wins. And that is good, he has a winner mentality, which is what we need. I don't think he is the long term answer, and I do want to see him succeed. He is the current leader of our team. So I am pulling for him.

We need a good back up for Tony next year, while the QB we get in the draft learns. Then becomes the back up, probably pretty quickly too. But a winning mentality breeds winning mentality in others.

It's sad, isn't it, what this franchise has become? And all because of ego.

I can not blame the fans. Some are too young to know any better and the others have been so beaten down over the years that they seek any semblance of what this team used to be. They'll take anything. Like a win over the Commanders in the finale of a lost season. It means nothing but yet means everything.

It is not just the young fan who don't know any better.

It is also some of the older fans who should remember what this organization used to stand for purposely adjusting their standards downward for whatever reason.

Some agree with you I see. dreamed of greatness? where in that article suggest 'greatness' nor
franchise QB,we/I are suggesting back up QB . Now to address what your suggesting without the hyperbole
Yap, he may not be good enough for our back up QB. I do think he has a chance because he has all the traits.
Traits being the mental side of the game. The mental side is what normally is harder to find.
Yap his the type of guy I pull for because he's got that "it".

I say I never want to see Moore QBing for Dallas again and people say I'm a hater or a meanie.

If he is QBing it means Romo is hurt and we didn't upgrade his backup or draft his replacement.

I don't need feel good stories out of Dallas. I need playoff wins and Super Bowl appearances.
