Why Dallas will NOT draft a LB with the 1st round pick

Now LB's like Manny Lawson and Bobby Carpenter will most likely be on the board at pick 18. However I really think Parcells does not want to spend another year GROOMING an OLB in the 3-4. Even though Lawson and Carpenter may be pass rushing specialists..the chances of them making a huge impact in their first year is slim. I think we keep Al Singleton..and the best bet to win NOW is to sign free agent Julian Peterson. I know he's coming off of a serious injury, but if he's all cleaned up this guy is a playmaker. Imagine our LB's as Ware, Ayodele, James and Peterson with Singleton, Shanle, Fowler and a draft pick as depth. I think we either trade down, or draft the best player of need on the board like an offensive lineman like Eric Winston or even a safety like Ko Simpson. Thoughts??

IMO, Manny Lawson has more talent than DeMarcus Ware, and Ware is a year away from being a star. Lawson will have double digit sacks if he starts his rookie yea, book it.

It could definitely happen, but the only thing I'd question is: Are we willing to spend that type of money?

Looking at what Witherspoon received, I'm frightened to even know what Peterson wants.

I would love KO Simpson or Marcus McNeil if we dont go after Lawson or Carpenter, also i wouldnt mind Winston Justice or Eric Winston.

I never say never...but I do think we draft a LB if there at #18

Ware made an impact as a rookie, so I don't understand why Lawson or Carpenter can't. Lawson moreso than Carpenter because of his physical abilities.

that's true but i'm just saying for an IMMEDIATE impact, i think Peterson is the way to go because we don't have to groom him..and ware was in a little slump there in the middle of the season

I see us trading down with IND and picking up Carpenter/Lawson AND also signing Peterson. Then you have Peterson, Ayodele, James, and Ware with Burnett, Carpenter/Lawson, and Shanle backing them up. OUCH! In a year or two, things can be reavaluated as we dont know what we have in Burnett due to injury and Carpenter/Lawson will need time as he is a rookie.

Wow...talk about no respect for a high 2nd rounder...took 10 posts before Burnett was even mentioned.

i was high on burnett.

he just can't stay healthy and that is a problem.

I think BILL will take in consideration who can play teams as well... if BILL thinks Carp or Lawson can give him a pass rush along with some good teams play that may be the ticket!!!

Ware made an impact this year. I believe Carpenter can also.
Lawson is a great talent and you don't let great talent slide by and pay huge money to someone having injury problems. I will take Carpenter or Lawson.

I was thinking the exact same thing about Burnett's name not even being mentioned initially along with the other LBs. I think Parcells will draft a LB with our first pick, and it may not be at 18, "if" we can find someone who wants to move up into our 18th spot though.

The reason we will draft a LB in the 1st round is becausse the man that buys the groceries collects LB's.

He had a knee injury. What other injuries happened that means he can't stay healthy? One ACL does not make a person injury prone.
Irvin tore his ACL early in his career also.

Are you serious? I have not seen Lawson play,,,,,so I will take your word for it........

I believe Lawson also blocked 6 kicks while @ NCSU.

Lawson or Carpenter in a Texas Minute!
