Why Dallas will NOT draft a LB with the 1st round pick

Are you serious? I have not seen Lawson play,,,,,so I will take your word for it........

Lawson is really fast but he only weighs 240 lbs. He will get eaten alive by tackles unless he can put on at least 10 lbs. I think Lawson can be a better linebacker in the long term, but no way could he duplicate Ware's success right now.

He had a knee injury. What other injuries happened that means he can't stay healthy? One ACL does not make a person injury prone.
Irvin tore his ACL early in his career also.

Thats very true. But Dallas should not expect Burnett to start next year. Thats why I wanted McGinest so Burnett wouldn't have to start until next year.

IMO, Manny Lawson has more talent than DeMarcus Ware, and Ware is a year away from being a star. Lawson will have double digit sacks if he starts his rookie yea, book it.

he's not as talented a football player as Ware, and he wont be drafted that high either...alot of people think he wont even be a 1st rd pick

as for getting double digit sacks as a rookie, here, in Dallas with Mike Zimmer as d coach...forget it

Lawson runs a 4.4, Ware runs a 4.6

Lawson has a 40 inch vertical, Ware has a 35 inch vertical

Lawson has a much larger repiture of moves to get to the QB coming out of college

Lawson played against far superior competition in the ACC than Ware did playing in a mid-major

he also had reconstructive surgery on his left knee in college, and may have been injured his senior year if I'm not mistaken. Then he got injured in training camp and finally tore his ACL at the end of the year. I think that qualitfies him as injury prone.

Lawson is a beast, and I think he will be a steal if he makes it to the second round. He is 6'5 (some say 6'6), 240 lbs, and runs a 4.4 40. at 6'5, he has the frame to add an extra 10-15 pounds, and I think he will because some scouts are calling him a workout warrior. I think he will weigh around 250-253 by the start of preseason if he is drafted by Dallas.

Lawson will be a LB in the pros, not a DE

Lawson is more talented, this is just a much better draft class than last years. Lawson looked better against better compitition

all that and a quarter will get you a phone call

he has alot athletic ability, doesnt mean he's a better football player...

and he's never played OLB either, so he has to learnt to play in reverse as well as upfield

Ware played DE in college just like Lawson did, and you cant deny that the ACC, maybe the second best conference in CF, provided far superior compitition.

Any way you look at it, your arguement holds very little water

More on Manny Lawson...
He looks like Ware a little bit...

Manny LawsonHeight: 6-5 3/8 | Weight: 241 | 40-Time: 4.43
Official Bio

Strengths:
An amazing athlete with rare ability...Has outstanding speed and quickness with a great burst...Extremely explosive...Tremendous pass rusher off the edge...Good agility and can drop into coverage...Smart player with good instincts...Good tackler...Makes plays in space...Productive and can be very disruptive...Vertical jump is higher than the device used to measure that stat...Has a lot of upside.

Weaknesses:
Vastly undersized...A DE / OLB 'tweener who may not have a clear position at the pro level...Struggles to defend the run...Needs to get stronger...Gets engulfed by massive offensive tackles...Doesn't always play with good leverage...Needs to use his hands better...Is he just a workout warrior?...Relies on speed heavily...Won't be a fit for every team and will need to be in the right system to succeed.

Notes:
Competed as a hurdler, long jumper, triple jumper and relay runner for the Wolfpack track team...The prevalence of the 3-4 defense in the NFL will likely help Lawson's case as he would seem to be a prototypical OLB is that scheme.

did you ever see the guy play, more than once?

I'm guessing the answer is no

Manny Lawson is as good of an athlete as Demarcus Ware but not better. Compare if you want. Ware has better change of direction speed and is so at an inch shorter and 15 pounds heavier (more compact).

that was one of my points...Ware has better change of direction skills and on the field his speed shows up play after play...Lawson may run faster or jump higher but he is not the better pure football player right now

Yeah, but OLBers in the 3-4 have to take on tackles from time to time. Lawson needs to put on ten pounds period. Lawson does not run a 4.43 either. The track at the combine was built for the forty yard dash. His true speed is more like a 4.51. He is still fast though.

Ware? No, no one saw him play, he played at Troy for God's sake

Lawson? Yeah, I've seen 5 NC State games the last 2 years and, especially last season, he looked head and shoulders above Ware in terms of athleticism and ability. He looks a lot like Dwight Freeney in the way he is able to just blow by guys, also has a good spin move like Freeney.

Yeah that track was a fast one. Also Ware is pretty strong and has long arms and HUGE hands which help disengage from blockers.

I live right in the middle of ACC country and saw NC State a few times...Lawson didnt do much in the games I saw, but Mario Williams did

and in none of the games did Lawson look like he was "head and shoulders" above ware in terms of athleticism and ability...Lawson didnt do much in the Senior Bowl either

I'm not saying the guy will bust, but he isnt as good a football player right now as Ware was last yr when he came out...and it will be reflected on draft day

Lawson has played OLB in college before and has even covered TEs throughout his college career.
