Why did the D play so much Zone?

Why did they play so much Zone? Cowboys are a man team. Love feasted vs zone coverage this year and was mortal vs man.

I never heard an explanation. Makes no sense.

Not only did he play a soft zone but he never went to the cover one, heavy pressure scheme that defines the football team.

Then explain this to me. How come our zones left WRs wide open all the time but their zone defense allowed 2-3 guys to be around the receiver almost every time?

I think some of that is the fact that Dak began forcing the ball.

Jeez, I wonder how long the problem of not being able to stop the run has been around. Will it be addressed this offseason? My money is on no. After all we drafted Mazi Smith and we are smarter than everyone else and evaluate talent better than anyone else....Will McClay...Will McClay fans...

This is my thinking too. Quinn was afraid that if his DBs were in man with their backs to the LOS the Packers would run all over us.

I see the logic, but when we were leaving receivers wide open all night for big gains, and especially on 3rd and long, why stay in zone?

I think we miss Malik Hooker more than realize. He could see things develop better than in the box hit men Kearse anx Wilson

Because they're getting burned when going man, and it supposed to conserve their fuel a bit. Problem is, Dallas doesn't play zone well at all.

I think they were really worried about Green Bays ability to run the football.

But i was shaking my head too. Guys were so open in the middle and our pass rush was bearly existent.

Actually the rumor is or at least people speculation is because of gilmore's shoulder injury I even believe Lewis got a Ding shoulder in the game against Washington they decided not to put it on man to man because they may not have been tackling well so they went to more zone and I also heard that Green Bay was really good against man or at least that may have heard that wrong so they decided this might have been the best way to go about it which was a complete bust it was one of the worst displays of playoff defense I've ever seen anybody who starts blaming this offense is probably gonna all get put on ignored I realize the offense wasn't good but when they feel like they need to score 40 to win and start forcing the football and changing the game plan on offense to desperation time like in Seattle and a lot of other games this year where the defense didn't even offer much resistance..

It was like 3rd and 3 and Dan had the DBs back 10 yards. I was just cracking up! Just glad we lost early so I could just accept it early … the team was off for sure… no energy and nobody wanted to play besides Rico, Ferg & Gallup. Defense was lame **. It’s like they knew Dan is gone

Malik hooker didn't play?? since when?? maybe I missed it cause I was so angry I couldn't see through the fog in my eyes.

at least some of these threads people are pointing the blame where it mostly should go I realize we lost as a team but that defense worst showing of championship playoff defense I've ever seen I mean this looked like Mike Nolan I mean this rod marinelli all over again they were expecting our offense to have to do what they did in Seattle this has been like this most of the games against the better offenses teams that can actually put pressure on a defense Dan Quinn's defense is folded like a cheap door they cannot stop anyone unless they got the ball turned over...

Exactly I had the same question, Love was weak against man and good against zone was what we hear all week .

It was as if Quinn was sabotaging us on his way out. But why would he do that? Clearly he wanted to coach the D to victory, so what he did makes even less sense than sabotage. I'm grasping at straws. I DON'T UNDERSTAND!!!

After that performance who is going to hire him. I would think twice if I was an owner or GM

Even if you are worried about the speed of their WRs they had their safeties deep most of the game. You can play man underneath with your safeties over the top

I saw that Love's qbr was much lower against man coverage as well.

Seems like DQ had other stuff going on and didn't spend any time gameplanning. That defense was all time bad.
