Because they where there!

Because this is football and players get injured.

:lmao2:

They have potential. Just because someone was injured doesn't mean you don't draft him. Of course, you worry about things like that, but if you really like the kid, you draft him. Once again, I trust their decisions. Fasano though...ugh...I thought there were some better TE's on the board, but whatever...

Carpenter:
2005: Suffered a right fibula fracture when his leg twisted under him on the first defensive play vs. Michigan (11/19). The injury was further compounds when UM offensive tackle Jake Long fell on Carpenter's leg.

Fasano:
2003: Sat out the Navy game (11/08) with back spasms.
2004: Did not play vs. Stanford (10/09) due to a shoulder sprain.
2005: Played most of the second half of the year with his left thumb heavily taped because of a ligament strain (10/08)...Also suffered a slight shoulder contusion vs. Southern California (10/15).

Stanley:
2002: Limited over the second half of the season with turf toe.
2005: Underwent surgery Dec. 15 to repair a torn left pectoral muscle, missing the Gator Bowl vs. Virginia Tech.
2006: Did not participate in 225-pound bench press at the Combine following surgery for torn left pectoral.

Hatcher:
2004: Missed the Bethune-Cookman, Texas Southern and Alabama State games, but the school did not provide an injury report.

Fasano seems like the only real risk here...

Not to throw gasoline on the Chicken Little bonfire, but Hatcher was reported to have a narrowing spinal column in an article from Taylor the other day.

I knew there was something else, but that is all I could find...

The spinal column issue may or may not have any affect on his career... I know it has with some but there are many out there that don't have issues...

Terrence Newman had a shoulder problem in 2003, so did Larry Allen in 1994. These guys get scrutinized so much the team doctors know when they got the measels and the chicken pox.

Is it really true that Fasano has a plate and screws in his back? If the answer is no, I feel much better about the pick.

I thought I read or heard that somewhere here.

Fasano has not had a problem with his back in more then 2 years. So that seems to be ok now. Its hard to find any player that has played and started for several year s that DOES NOT HAVE some injury history.
Fasano was acknowledged as the 2nd or 3rd ranked TE in the draft- and as someone that was recommended by Charlie Weis to his old boss BP- that counts for more then some concerns about old injuries.

Broderick Bunkley had a history of knee and ankle problems at FSU. And Ernie Simms had concussion problems. D’Brickashaw Ferguson sat out two games last year with a knee injury. AJ Hawk had a major knee injury his senior year in high school. Haloti Ngata had a blown out ACL and hamstring problems in college. And Jason Allen sat out last year with a hip injury.

That was all collected after a quick 5 minute search.

Fasano had back spasms....not a plate and screws.

Hawk had at least one ACL tear.

Leinart - elbow
DeAngelo - knee
Wimbley - MCL
Winston - ACL
McNeil - Stinosis
Cromartie -ACL
Sims - 5 concussions
Bunkley - ACL
Allen - dislocated hip
Lendale - Fat, lazy, hamstring
Clemmens - ankle or knee

I'm missing a bunch plus all our injured draft picks.

Hard to build a draft board w/o all those guys.

I got a chuckle out of Mongo Millen's quote when he was asked about Ernie Simms' multiple concussions.

"No. 1, it shows he's a hitter .... "

Nice spin.

If you get a lot of concussions on the defensive side of the ball, shouldn't that show that your tackling technique is poor?

I believe the report was that doctor's found a plate and screws in Fasano early this off-season.
