Why didn’t we sign Peters right after Tyron injury?

This FO commits roster management malpractice on the daily. Tyron gets injured on August 25. Why wasn’t Peters in the next day and signed so he could get enough practice time in to possibly start at LT? Instead FO sat on their hands and won’t be able to “officially” sign him until Monday (or even Tuesday because of holiday). Less than a week before first game. So Peters will be nothing more than a swing tackle I bet. And you force a rookie who hasn’t practiced any LT in training camp to start. SMH

Because we have a 1st round LT draft pick that was supposed to replace him eventually.

They have players to fill in the gaps, not ideal but they have the players.

Upgrading depth is the plan now

But he hasn’t practiced there all camp. And you have a HOF LT that you’re going to sign. Why not do it asap?

Uh, because it’s going to take 5 or 6 weeks to get him into playing shape and he’s 40 and the only way he actually sees the field will be out of pure desperation!

Then why not sign someone else who can’t play now? You CANNOT put Josh Ball in at LT in an actual game.

Maybe he didn't want to sign then. Maybe we wanted to see more of Ball and some of Waletzko first. Maybe as soon as Tyron got hurt, they made up their mind that their first-round LT/LG would be the starter, so they were just looking at swing tackle possibilities.

Not saying I agree with any of those things, but that doesn't mean they didn't have their reasons.

It's not like he's been out of football for 2, 3, 5 years.....he just played with the Bears last year. So physically he will be fine, just needs some playbook study which is not hard for a lineman, not like a WR or RB. But the first game is sure out of the question with the way this FO has been dragging their feet. Good luck Dak.

This FO does not act with the urgency of a franchise that hasn’t won a super bowl in three decades
The guy hasn't been in camp. He wasn't going to be playing the first game of the season even if we signed him the day after Tyron was hurt.

Peters is a injury risk all his own. He will need time to actually prepare his body to play 17-20 games..

He can provide depth but he is far from being a savior. If Smith takes the bull by the horns then we roll with that.
IF not, Peters will provide options at some point. We really just need the experience. Zack Martin is probably the only player on the OL who can tell you who Green Day is.

He’s not signing to start. We’ve already been told Tyler is the starter.

There was no rush. Peters is not going to be our starting LT. We are now signing veteran depth. That’s all Peters is. The only way he starts is if we have another injury.
