why do they keep doing this all it will do is make it more expensive the price isnt going to go down

i do not understand

i know it take two to tango or what ever and the player have to actually sign the contract but i still do not understand why they keep doing it over and over with these new contract for player they are obviusly 100% extending

I don’t get it either? When the time to extend Dak had passed I thought for sure the Cowboys were going to move on from him but they do the unthinkable by extending him an hour before opening day kickoff.
They love painting themselves into a corner with bad contracts.
Parsons is next to get overpaid.

I tend to think there's a pretty contentious relationship between the Jones and Agents. I know there have been some words exchanged in the past. I remember reading that in his first FA venture, Dak and the Cowboys had agreed on a deal. The agent was not happy and had Dak not sign it. That's why it was such a mess with Dak's second contract. I really think most agents want as much as they can get from Dallas. They know if they wait, then they can squeeze Jerry and Co for a TON.....

That's easy. After 30 years of proof, they still can't get it right. They think they are smarter than everybody else yet these deficiencies of theirs proves to the world that they are useless.

I keep saying that they have to (or should) realize that the longer they wait, the more they will have to spend because of the market being reset. I don't know if it's stubbornness, arrogance, or both.

This may be an odd theory but when a contract is signed, the team has to put the guaranteed money aside. I wonder if Jerry has the money, in terms of cash, to put aside and stalls until he can get it.

Agents drive the price up.

They always ask for more, especially with elite players.

Nothing is free.

Yet again late to the table, is there anyone one else left at DE that needs a record setting contract ?
Cause ol jerral is " waiting for the market to set" Before they sign Micah.
Absolutely. Nothing has changed, and now the "aggressive" off season is gone, cause we gotta pay Micah .....

If you were an agent and you sitting opposite Jerry...... would you sign every or late? Do you think Jerry will hold or fold?

BTW players, as well as Jerry play to the media .....at the end of the day, they dont ask for for $40m+ (until negotiations start).

My honest guess…..and being completely serious…

I think keeping that huge signing bonus in their bank account and/or earning money in other businesses instead of forking it over to the player is a big factor.

Delaying handing like a 50m check to a Prescott or Parsons for months or years probably earns them millions elsewhere over that time period, and a cheapo like Stephen pays attention to that. They don’t care about how it affects the team because winning isn’t the top priority.

Being the GM AND the owner is a massive conflict of interest in several ways. Just one of the many obstacles Jerry and his act have created.

If the player starts thinking he is underpaid after you sign him early. He will renegotiate and whatever savings you thought you got will go away. See Myles Garrett

No coincidence that the only other team that does this is the only other team with an owner-GM: look at Cincinnati dragging their feet in extensions.

But to your signing bonus point, it’s worse than that. When you sign a player to a new deal, the owner must make an escrow account with guaranteed money throughout the entire contract. So if you sign Micah with a 40m$ signing bonus but 100m$ fully guaranteed at signing, the Joneses actually have to pay out all 100 million in that moment. So you can image the hesitancy

So you think Jerry started negotiations early and his agent is dragging them out??? You think Jerry started negotiations early with CD and Dak and their Agents wanted to wait until the last minute?
