Why do our CB's play 10-12 yards away from Receivers?

That's a good question. It seems that the left corner is always eight yards off the ball. The only answer I can think of is, they want to avoid rub routes between the WR and TE. But Dallas does play a lot of cover 3, single high, when they are not in man. Meaning the CB is responsible for a deep third of the field.

Ok, if say, Diggs, is responsible for 1/3 of the secondary I kind of understand him wanting enough room to make the right decision on where to go.
