Why does PHI sign their own FAs easy, and we can’t

You don't think they wanted to keep any of the seven guys he just said they were probably losing? All of them were major contributors, and two thirds of them were starters.

People are focusing on who they signed without looking at what else is happening. They had to cut Jernigan to save $7MM in cap space and there is chatter that they may dump Bennett (who IMO was their best DE at the end of the year last year) and maybe try to trade Agholor at WR. They don't have a starting DT opposite Cox right now.

So sure, they signed a few of their guys but they also have some interesting decisions coming up that could create some holes elsewhere and depth issues.

Absolutely. They make moves, trades sign free agents and draft. They are not a team that sits still and just drafts guys. It doesn't always work well for them but it did finally earn them a SB when it all came together.

We have 50m$ in cap space next offseason. The piper will still be paying us for years to come.

If you are thinking I am defending the Cowboys, I am not. Their use of FA is idiotic, frankly.

But what the Eagles are doing right now doesn't have me jealous at this point. They have some real big financials decisions coming up and with Wentz's contract looming, they may have to strip the club a bit more next year.

This will actually be a really important draft for them IMO. They have a bunch of picks and will need good, cheap talent in a few years to offset the nearly $30MM cap hit Wentz will eat up.

Over the years, Dallas has been able to keep almost every single player they wanted to keep.
Their record for keeping their own players is outstanding....and very underappreciated.
A FA is a FA.
Generally though, Dallas circumvents the process by extending before they are full blown FAs.

Now their record for signing quality FAs from other teams, that can be debated.

Brandon Graham decided he did not want to leave Philly and gave a hometown discount. He is getting long in the tooth and decided to stay where he feels comfortable.

Isaac Seumalo was not a free agent. He was signed through 2019 at a $763,000 salary. He only started 11 games last year so I am sure it did not take much convincing for him to agree to a contract extension to get more money now as opposed to gambling that they could potentially find someone to replace him. We are talking about a player that is still trying to establish himself.

Which is still bottom ten in the league. For comparison, the Cowboys have $114MM in cap space next year but that wouldn't include guys like Lawrence and Jones who come off the books after this year technically. So that $114MM is going to disappear real fast.

For the Eagles, the $57MM doesn't include Wentz. If they pick up his option, as a Top 10 pick, his salary in that 5th option is the average of the Top 10 salaries of QBs in the NFL. So you are looking at like a $22-24MM cap hit. So suddenly, your $57MM is now $33-35MM. And that $35MM gets skinnied down further when you have decisions looming such as who plays LT (Big V?), S, WR, etc.
