Why Getting Ezekiel Elliott Was The Right Move

Probably the best RB talent of all time. What a player.

I believe Perine is better than AD in college. Not sure how it'll translate to the pros but Perine's almost got as many TDs as AD in 2 seasons and will end up with about 500 more yards than AD on around 50-100 less carries if he keeps up to his current path.

And people are praising the move.

Essentially saying for the same money they'd rather have Zeke than Lamar Miller AND Jalen Ramsey.

And then wonder why others think this is the height of stupidity.

I get it.... Its not very hard to understand your position. In fact, I was hoping for a trade down, then to pick him up later in the round.......But why risk losing him? Why get "cute"......Sometimes Football isnt chess. Sometimes its just checkers. See a jump, make it, King me.

We got our guy. And I think, if things go well. We are going to see an entirely different team this year.....coupled along with other factors... I think were going back to the 2014 attitude, chemistry, model....

Perine is a good player but he doesn't compare to AD. He's not that type of freak. Perine and Nick Chubb compare well.

College stats, especially in the weak defensive conference that is the big 12, shouldn't be used to compare the 2.

When there isn't a peep from our rivals, you know very well its the right move.

I live up here in Philly and the attitude seems to be that Elliott is a nice player but it's questionable why Dallas with the OL they have would overvalue a TB like that.

Are you sure its not envy? A TB who can do it all and cause havoc all over the field coupled with this offensive line?

I cant tell you how happy I was when I heard the name.....This was a great pick.

This tells me, along with signing Morris. We are going to make a real push during Romos window. I would've liked to see a high profiler FA addition on D......But its okay....

Were going to run the ball. Were going to live and die with the offense.....Keep Romo healthy. and if EE is what we think he is. I think we win the East. And with a team that can play small ball, control the clock....a team like that has a chance at beating anybody.

Why risk losing a rb?

Because they are fungible. They are easily replaced. Because out rushing your opponent is only slightly more predictive of winning as flipping a coin?

Like who cares if we lose Zeke but pick up a 2nd rounder?

We could be looking at Jalen and Jack as our top 2 picks in this draft.

Maybe envy. Maybe not. But it's not an outrageous belief since many Cowboys fans have said the same thing. As have some prominent media and analysts.

The Cowboys better have gotten this right. If Elliott gets hurt or simply isn't the 1800+ yard per year rusher you guys claim he is going to be, they missed on the value of the pick.

What is interesting is that I haven't seen ANY of the talking heads say that Elliott isn't a GREAT PLAYER. The only knock I have seen are those that say that "we could have got him later" or "he wasn't a great value pick".

That gives me a lot of comfort. No one seems to want to put their name beside the comment "Elliott will be a bust". That seems to be a pretty good indication that we got this right.

I think the biggest loser in the top 10 was the Chargers. I think they could have traded down to the Ravens spot and still got Bosa or better and picked up a pick to do it. I see Bosa as the player who might be the most likely to be considered "over drafted" 5 years from now.

I think you underestimate the importance of the RB position.

I know I know, throw those stats out. I can throw some right back at ya.................you can throw stats and data at just about any debate....

Heck, Im not even saying you're wrong. I'm just saying , I think at least, for this team, at this time, .....a stud RB is the best play they could've made....

I cant wait for football season...and now, I really cant wait to see what EE can do for this team. Yes, we get a healthy Romo, Dez....and easier schedule....and now add a potential all pro EE carrying the ball....

I think it was the right move, for this team, at this particular time......But, that doesn't mean I am right!!!! :)

It's not worth much, but CBS Sports gave the Cowboys a "D" grade for picking Zeke, the worst grade of the first round.

That's Pete Prisco and it's the worst grade I've seen from anyone so far.

The number 2 rb is still available.

The only other position where the number 2 rated prospect is still available is OG.

Do people not understand what opportunity cost is/means?

I am happy with the pick but I think getting Ramsey and Derrick Henry would have been a better decision.

I kind of think that is backwards thinking. If you don't have a line, it does not matter who is running behind it, your team won't do well. Now give me an o-line and a great back and you have someone to dominate a 4th qtr which will mean a lot to us.

2014 - Dallas was 3rd in TOP at 32 minutes a game with Romo and Murray
2015 - Dallas was 10th in TOP at 31 minutes a game with no Romo and McFadden

People are erroneously trying to make the claim that the defense wasn't fresh last year because they were on the field way too long compared to 2014.

If true, nice find. That data shocks me.

Might be a valid point. Dallas can still have Elliott and a pretty good pass rusher in the 2nd round. They do draft 3rd.

I do think he's probably the early favorite to win Offensive ROY.
But there's a real chance that if given the carries, 4-5 other backs taken later could have been early favorites too.
Absolutely. Murray had 1,800 yards, and the OL will be better than it was then. This was a splurge pick for the offense, in a draft when we could have easily added two starters to the defense, three with a trade down.

Now we'll need some luck, a smart trade, or both.
