A+ drafts are more important than A+ FA's.
The sky's not falling, but we need to focus on the draft. That's where the future lies.
I agree with you 100% in this statement.

Thing is the Draft and FA are mutually exclusive. I didn't not advocate being Danny-West and trading every pick.

Thankfully the NFL has ROOKIE CAPS and LIMITED $$$ "drafted" players will earn anytime soon. We have mid-round picks not two top 5 picks in round 1.

Drafting 4 GREAT PLAYERS this year does not change the fact that we are leaving money on the table like a cheap owner (the same owners cowboy fans complain we send revenue sharing $$$ to).

Ever here the quote, Better safe then sorry? If we get a rash of injuries or a top name FA comes into the market during the year guess what we have room for a signing.
ROTF. signing who? some magic player that is available mid season?

$1m to "lose negotiating power" with Key... SO WHAT! Let him retire if he wants this summer but lock him up.. this is like squabblig over nickles.

Yeah, let's pay a guy $1 million who will say give me more or I will retire. That's a good idea.

Jerry is a business man. Paying that bonus would have been a VERY poor business decision.

I would much rather see Jerry spend wisely on a few well thought through additions like Kosier and Ayedole than have him pull a Snyder and throw money at every overrated free agent on the market.
We all want to "spend wisely".

After we do we'd still have MILLIONS left to spend so SPEND SOME OF IT. Don't leave it on the table like Philly.

You guys are mixing arguments here actually making my point for me. :)

Why does the #2 valued NFL franchise (by Forbes) have millions of cap space (last year too) and this year yet we're nickle/diming everyone for 3-4 years running (since the gallowaste trade).

Is there ANY possibility we spend our entire cap figure THIS SEASON?

$4m for a kicker like Vinatieri still a bargain given the fact we'd have 3 more wins last season with a real kicker

$1m to "lose negotiating power" with Key... SO WHAT! Let him retire if he wants this summer but lock him up.. this is like squabblig over nickles.

I could fill the page with complaints going back to nickle/diming Delhomme with a silly offer (when we had 3 garbage QBs on roster).

It seems he's gone Philly (invest $$$ and energy in a new stadium while allowing the team to not utilize cap $$$$).

I'd gladly like to be shown i'm singing the wrong tune here.

Frugal and cheapskate are two different things.

I'm glad he's being frugal...He by no means a cheapskate.

But wow, isn't it easy speading someone else money?

So you are happy JJ is a "business man"

I'd be happy if he were as good a "football owner"

But lets all cheer for him saving a few bucks!!!! YAAAAHHHHH!

I dont know if I'm splitting hairs but I think its obvious you would leave money to sign pix... I think its more on the lines of unused LARGE amounts of unused space is not condusive to a team with a coach who is about SUPER BOWL or Bust!!!

yeah you have to say some money for FREE AGENTs during the season but not much because if they r street walkers during the season it wont take much to sign them.... and judging from last years crop of in season pickups (Barrow, Glymph, Columbo, Price) who the hell cares if we have a little MONEY to sign free agents.... its not like you are going to sign a probowler in October!

what has hamstrung this team is LAST years crop of FREEAGENTs RIVERA and FERGIE whos CAPHIT out weighs their production! Take those 2 guys away and you can make a run at HUTCHISON like the VIKES did or u can make a run at Von Olfen (sp) who signed for must less tis year than fergie last year!

Oh and Resign players... thats all about SIGNING BONUS because their actually cap hit will be lower while the over all cap is higher...

the 90s BS... that 90s cap is is no where near the same cap we are dealing with now as it jumps close to 9 million every year!

the fact is this team does not have DIRECTION because they have a LAME DUCK coach!!!

You still don't get it. You pay Key the $1 mill bonus, Key then DEMANDS $5 million per year or he retires. You don't pay it, Key retires, you're out an extra $1 million, $2.5 million on your cap, and you still don't have a WR.

i do get it.

$1m to keep Key off the Eagles, Seattle or whomever is a "smart" investment for me. By FAR he's the second best FA WR out there.

You value saving $1m (while having left another $15m on the table unspent) so there lies our difference.

Hopefully he realizes that we are not close to being a superbowl contender and is going to set the table for when we get a quality qb in the draft.

ROTFLMAO.

Before we cut Key we were an odds on top 5 favorite in the NFC to make the superbowl. I'd put it at top 3. What team is better coached and scarier to play in the NFC (home and road)?

None.

Thanks to our "good businessman" owner, we took steps back since the season ended.
