Why has Saban won 3 of the last 4 NCAAF Championships?

Power football. Controlling the line of scrimmage on both the offensive and defensive lines. No flash. No sizzle. Just smash mouth football. It's winning football and it doesn't matter on what level. You control the trenches on both sides of the ball and you win football games. The Cowboys should take notice.

It will be interesting to see once the playoff system is implemented if a collegiate dynasty crowed by opinion polls is able to translate to having to actually earn the wins.

Bama is good, no question, but all honest observers must admit the present system for determining the BCS involves a fair amount of politicking, and not pure meritocracy.

In all of my years of following college football, Alabama has had the widest recruiting advantage that I can ever recall during the Saban era.

But yes, Saban is a great college Head Coach.

I saw Saban play high school football, .. he is a WV boy.

Also saw Rich Rodriguez and Jimbo Fisher play high school ball, .. all three grew up and played within within 20 miles of each other.

That's crazy to think 3 major college coaches grew up in that small of an area.

Well yea, but they also have waaaay better players than everyone else. That kind of football is great when you out-talent the opposition by a wide margin. It's just easy to do. The "flash and sizzle" is there as a competitive advantage. Given two equally talented teams, the team that can design a scheme to get the most out of their talent will win. That's where the creativity and ingenuity in the NFL comes in.

I agree about them played great ball at the LOS but they have a QB who is dependable with the ball. He plays smart. I think McCarron is a huge part of what makes the Tide roll.

I agree. I think McCarron is under rated by folks. I heard a stat on him, going back the last 18 games, he is throwing for something like 60% completions on passes over 20 yards. Bama is very good over the top. Better then what you normally expect them to be. You think of Bama and you think of that Power Running game but McCarron is actually pretty accurate when throwing down field.

Unfortunately for the Cowboys, we can't 'recruit' players. When USC was dominating with Pete Carroll, they weren't doing it with smashed mouth football. The difference is that Carroll is a success in the pro game, Saban wasn't.

I don't think Saban is an awful coach. He's smart enough to understand that if you have far superior talent, the only thing that gets you beat is if you beat yourself. And he seems like a stickler for teaching the basics and fundamentals at each position. The playing field is so much more level on the pro game that schemes are more important. And 80% of the games in the pros are won by the team that passes the ball more effectively.

That's why Carroll has been a success, particularly with the Seahawks. His teams are great at stopping the pass where the core of the team is in the secondary.

I'm not very big on college football, but one answer to me is clear-- there just isn't any REAL competition.

Saban has also put more DBs and WRs into the NFL than anyone else too.

He is outrecruiting everyone and producing more NFL talent than anyone which is why he is winning.
He is also winning based on reputation and in 2 of those title seasons he suffered a loss which was largely unheard of the first 10 years of the BCS.

That type of football wins no matter. The SEC is loaded with talented players on most of the teams. Look how that "creativity and ingenuity" is working in the NFL right now with these option offenses. Not so much.
