If you have a mediocre Te dominating w 80-100 receptions and 10 yard avgs you have some really serious problems on offense unless he's a touchdown machine.

The Quantity of Catches doesn't necessary outweigh the Quality of catches.

Witten had multiple seasons where he caught a 100 balls and we didnt even come close to sniffing the playoffs.

at least Cook is a day 1 starter. The odds of drafting a ready to go te is 1 in a million odds.

McKeon and Sprinkle aren't the answer either.

He could be a good mentor if we draft woods.

As much as we use tes we should have alot of DEPTH and Skillsets

Terrance Steele is a better te than our #2 guys.
At this point in their careers, Schultz is better than Cook. And it's not close.

Draft pick, looks like. I don't have any confidence in any other TE's on the roster.

Whens the last te that got drafted by the cowboys that was a day 1 starting te.

That's like hitting the lottery.

Schultz got drafted in 2018 and 2020 he wasn't good at all but he played.

Last year he was ok but that took 3 years

So we don't have but 1 te and we use 2 starting tes but we're gonna draft a te that's gonna play in 1-2 years

How is that gonna help us in 4-5 months

Prolly be some 5th rounder or undrafted fa knowing us.

Escobar was drafted in the 3rd round and it took him 2 years

Probably best to just bite the bullet on this one, pay him the franchise money this year and try to replace him next season. I am not comfortable giving him a extended contract. it would turn out to be another bad contract in the making. Let someone else overpay him.

At this time it's 50/50 to which direction the situation goes.
Deadline to negotiate a contract extension for players under the franchise tag is 3 months from today - July 15th.

A) Are the FO and Schultz's agent actively trading proposals back and forth...working hard to hammer out something before training camp?

B) Is there an understanding between the parties that the TE must put in a season deemed worthy by the Cowboys to offer him a long-term deal?

C) Schultz is done in Dallas; 2022 is his swan song + an audition for his next team.

That makes no sense if you look at how many passes he throws to WR's. In 2020 when Gallup was healthy 3 different WR's had over 100 targets. How many teams had that? The only reason it didn't happen last year was because Gallup was out with injury a lot, but he and Cedrick Wilson combined for 123 receptions to go with Lamb's 120 and Cooper's 104.
In big games against good defenses, wide receivers evaporate with Dak.

I don't care about what he did against the Lions and Falcons.

Being a winner isnt about reception stats. It's about winning games and making quality plays in the clutch against the best teams.

If the wrs are getting doubled and can't get open and the defense is forcing ya to beat them w your 80 catch te he better be a gamechanger

Unfortunately our tes are just overtargeted mediocre jag tes that put up great checkdown screen stats but can't make the plays that matter to win ya any games.

2 tds in 12 games against non Division Opponents is not a 11 million dollar winning formula

We coulda got 2 mediocre starting tes for the price of 1 but we crapped our pants

Easy as pie. Bengals.
The Bengals are a great example ksk

The Bengals had CJ Uzoma who was at least as good as Schultz.

He was prolly a little better in the clutch but he's just a 10 yard possession receiving te.

He only caught 40 passes and he wasn't overtargeted like Schultz.

The Bengals didn't want to pay 8 million for a Jag te so they signed Hayden Hurst for 3.5 million.

3.5 million vs 11 million for a non differencemaker player gives ya 7.5 million towards a wr or other player who is a differencemaker

I think that was a way better decision than ours.

Is Hayden Hurst a better jag te than Schultz or Uzoma. Prolly not. But that's irrelevant. Because he's still not a differencemaker

The Pie and Targets are going towards the differencemakers.

That's how alot of other peeps feel. It's just not me

They don't care about the 4 tds against Philly, 1 against Washington, and 1 against the Giants

We coulda beat those teams with Hurst or Oj Howard for 3.5 million

There's no way he's playing this year under the franchise tag 10.9 million.. He isn't worth it. From his point of view it's 10.9 million guaranteed for one year, He can bet on himself and get paid again next year. Dallas can A. sign him and get the cap hit down. B. Draft a replacement C. Sign or trade for another TE. Then rescind the tag.
They're going to draft, and groom his replacement. Cheaper in the long haul.

It's those 12 non division games and the 6-6 record and (only 2 Tds by Schulz) that we should be concerned about. That and the 9 straight games w only 1 TD by Schultz

That hardly a differencemaker.

We really should have been 4-8 against non division but The Chargers and Patriots choked

If we'd focus on using Schultz as an inline blocker on 1st and 2nd down and quit using him as much on 3rd down as a receiver (out of the slot) he wouldn't be so gassed by the 4th quarter when he always comes up empty handed

Maybe a fresh 3rd down te or better slot wr would be a better solution. Js

Hopefully a 3rd down alpha dog te that can jump.

He's trying to be #82 in his prime but there is more to the te position than playing every snap. Especially if ya can't beat any good teams

That's just the straight dope no bulsh lmao

He never did play because he was slow and couldn't block.
Escobar looked like a clumsy giraffe out there running around.

The Jones's have an obsession White tes that can't jump. lol

We drafted Martellus Bennett in the 2nd round and made him the designated blocking te behind Witten. Lmao

We wouldn't know what to do w an alpha dog jumping red zone te if we did draft one.

We just suck at the te position.

Witten and his 100+ catches per season w 4-5 tds against scrub teams Lmao

At least he could make some 3rd down catches and block

You don't build a team around a possession receiving te. You build it around wrs and rbs unless you got a stud te that can avg 12-13 yards per catch.

9-10 yard avg tes need about 35-40 balls max or it's unproductive.

We care about stats and emulating outdated schemes and players too much instead of winning.

I lost count how many games we lost or got eliminated from the playoffs on 6 yard passes on 4th and 10 to Witten.

90% of the experts think tagging Schultz or paying a premium for an Avg te makes no sense. That he's not very good in one on one coverage or a good blocker.

Most all of them say it's just this Sdupid checkdown scheme and lack of attention from defenses. And we should be focussed on throwing the ball to our top wrs.

I've been preaching it for 8-9 years in this forum and finally some peeps are just starting to come around

smh.

splitting or biasing data and then relying on characterizations to justify it is not a compelling argument

that's just the straight dope no bullish lol

It's been that way for 8+ years. So this is not new data

Go to YouTube and listen to what the experts are saying.

It's really not a knock on Schultz. He's just doing what's asked of him. It's just too much involvement

We just need to put more emphasis on improving our offensive scheme and focussing our targets and resources on our better skilled players. Aka wrs and rbs

I just don't think Schultz can beat that one on one coverage any better than the 3-5 million dollar tes can. He's just not drawing much of it on 1st and 2nd down.

The blueprint to beating the Cowboys is to force them to beat ya with their tes.

They catch alot of balls but don't make many big plays or score against many good defenses.

And it's taking opportunities away from better skilled players
