Why I'm Excited About Tony Romo

You're exactly right. Not wanting to get rid of a controversial 35 year old receiver is exactly like not wanting to get rid of a Pro Bowl, record setting, 28 year old QB.
Who hasn't even played three full years yet.

How "punting" Romo could be even a remote consideration in anyone's mind is beyond me.

dont you know how many fumbles he had in 13 games last year and how many he lost?

Good god, like there is any question.

Romo is better than Peyton in Jerryland! Infact lions fans give the "Manning 5 year" defense for Dan Orvansky's play so why cant Cowboys fans?

Needless to say 9er fans used the "David Carr" defense when defending Alex Smith's play for years...
You fail at comparisons.

Keep the blinders on Romo lovers. If he has another December this year like every December thus far he needs to be relegated to backup duty. I'll take competition this year at the QB actually but I want to give him one more year to prove this is not all his typical MO.

Wow.

Just freaking wow.

I'm not saying anything groundbreaking. Don't act like it's the first time I have said it. The guy has a LOT to work on.

  • Ball protection
  • making the smart call instead of chucking it up for grabs (throw it away and live til the next down)
  • lead lead lead
  • Stop sulking on the freaking sidelines all by himself on the end of the bench. It sets a poor example for the rest of the guys when your starting qb is sitting on the end of the bench yet again with a textbook facepalm.
  • Dig deeper in those big games and will the other 10 on offense to win...
  • When the clock strikes twelve and the month changes to December stop fading into oblivion.

I love me some Romo just as much as I love me some TO but he has got to take better charge of what is going on out there when the offense is on the field. A little self discipline and a little more control of the other guys will go a long way in helping rally the guys around our field general. Yes. Notice general... Show me a general that's not focused on leading.

Now if you all want to act all surprised as if I am saying something groundbreaking feel free. I call that denial. Have fun with it.

I'm not excited about romo at all. I think He's had more then enough time to get it together and so far He hasnt done it. He has folded under pressure and agaisnt decent defenses. at times last year it seemed like He couldnt even make the easy throws. He does have a bettr arm then I though aswell but He doesnt seem to have the accuracy when he slings the bullets. So He does his little floaters that get Picked off.

Personally I'll be happy If He just cuts down on the Mistakes. Ball security and make the easy dump off passes. And when the chance is there go for the long intermediate passes. just run the offense and dont lose the game.

I usually find myself on the same side of a debate with you.

Romo can and perhaps needs to improve on 2008 for us to win a SB. Not sure there a strong argument otherwise.

It's this idea of dumping him so quick that lacks sense.

His actual play of 2006 and 2007 put him solidly in the top 5.

His actual play in 2008 perhaps placed him in the 8-12 range.

We all have high goals and expectations for the Cowboys and Romo. Just because someone indentifies Romo as a very good QB and not likely to be replaced anytime soon, doesn't mean the are "excepting" a not quite good enough result.

Sometimes I believe you guys speak as if you believe these players are actually reading this board.

It's ok to talk about the positves in players and the team as a whole where they do exist. Even after a dissapointing 9-7 finish. They most likely won't be eating any cheese here.

I'm not so much into dumping him as I am into bringing in a different QB to move in a different direction if he doesn't pan out. If he wants to fight for his job (AKA open competition) in 2010 if the 2009 year doesn't pan out year that works for me. This is his year to step up to the plate IMO and make contact (especially in December and January). If he wants to silence the critics then a tad more consistency and a dose of leadership will go a long way in doing so.

I'm really tired of seeing the ball get slapped out of his hand and..here's the big one... the chuck of the ball into the air in the vicinity of a receiver as he is being sacked with the hopes that it lands in said receiver's hands. That really urks me.

Some QBs are more likely to just throw it out of bounds in that same situation knowing they've given their offense yet another down to fight again. I call that smart.

Bleu, I have to hand it to ya...you're as consistent as the day is long.

Did you have these same feelings year before last and earlier?

are these all not things your precious T.O. could also improve on? yet it hasnt even crossed your mind to get rid of him.....talk about blinders

TO was a problem when Tony had a top 10 all time regular season for a quarterback? The excuses he is gettin now is just getting funny. Romo is good but hes just not clutch. He needs to learn from Donovan. Funny you mention him because he will throw it to his running backs or just short passes to other players and have them make plays. That is what you have playmakers for. If you are not clutch you should get the ball out very quickly. But, that goes back to deep passing Jason Garrett.
After November, under Tony Romo, Dallas is 5-10.

In those 15 games:
15 TDs - 20 INTs - 5 fumbles lost - QB Rating 71.24.

Yup, it's TO's fault! Jerry better boot him off the team!

Somewhat... I'm probably one of the biggest Romo fans on this board. From day one I was ape **** over getting him onto the field. Now that he has been there for a few years I see things to highlight that need to improve if he is to lead us down that deep playoff road. I reserve the right to shift focus just like anyone else on this board.

Yeah. That works. Take it all back to a TO conversation. Have fun with that.

I have hashed and rehashed those stats. They're very telling. I didn't feel like digging them up yet again to present to the Romo lemmings. Thanks for the dig.

All I am saying is Romo needs to take the next step. I'm not for giving him the next 6 years to take that step. By that time we'll be in a serious rebuilding mode yet again. Knuckle up this year or deal with strong competition at the starting QB position in 2010.

I like Tony Romo and I think at times he's shown the stuff it takes to be a leader and take this team all the way. But as good as he is sometimes, he's equally, if not worse other times. What sucks it that it seems those "other times" are when it matters most...
