Im' excited about the preseason. There is so much to watch. A RB competition with Dowdle, Davis, Vaughn and Luepke. The fight for WR 5 and 6. I mean you have Turpin, Fehoko, Brooks, and two or three others in the hunt. THe battle at TE....will Schoonmaker come on now that he is practicing? Ferguson has looked really good blocking and catching, Hendershot has flashed, and there is McKeon and Stephens, Jr. The OL battles...some of these guys have to start stepping up. That right there is enough to keep us interested in preseason, but we haven't even discussed the defense. The improvement of Sam Williams. New big body Mazi Smith. Developing some LBs in Cox, Clark, Overshown, and Jefferson. THe logjam at Safety, and the competition at CB. This team has a ton of talent, so guys are going to have to step up. Im looking forward to seeing the backups fighting for their NFL lives.

Definitely, Saturday will be fun.

The only real concern heading into the 92 season was keeping Troy Aikman healthy. He had missed games his first three seasons, including four games in 91. Other than that the team was solid from top to bottom.

Seems to be similar. We need to keep Dak healthy.

That is not true at all. They finished 91 by getting embarrassed by Detroits offense. It was the weak spot of the team, pass rush and the secondary. They got run off the field in Detroit in the divisional round and it was the second time that season they had lost there.

they improved the secondary and traded for haley.

also they had a semi awkward situation at qb where Beuerlein had won a couple of games that Aikman had not yet. That playoff road win in chicago was huge just like the win at philly. Those are the pivotal points of the growth of that team. Aikman didn't appreciate not starting the Detroit playoff game when he was deemed healthy enough to start. He was brought into the game when it was out of reach and the lions tee'd off on him.

there was a lot to settle going into the 92 season.

Let me ask you this, as I wasn't born yet. What were some of the concerns entering the 1992 season? I was born late that year.
If I remember the defense had some good pieces, but were not dominant yet. I think they were ranked average or even low average after the 91 season. But we all knew it was coming. When Haley became a Cowboy it was sweet...couple of years later Prime Time....
But all good things must come to an end.
.
Aikman took a beating the first couple of years with the cowboys. So, he's health was a concern. It remained a concern throughout his career.

I think the WR room improving is really the only difference that matters. A more consistent - and easier - passing game will have a ripple effect through the rest of the team.
I read this as ‘nipple effect’ and was pretty messed up for a solid 5 seconds.

...........The only real area I have any concern is probably the oline and running game. Then again, the quicker passing scheme (which I love) should help protect the oline. How many times did we see plays under Garrett/Linehan/Moore where the play took forever to develop? This quicker attack should help Dak and the oline. As for the running game, I am excited to see Vaughn play and Pollard. All in all, I'm excited for this season.
Too often! Moore liked those slow developing plays, and they usually didn't even work.

ITs amazing to me how many posters dont understand that picks in practice or in games are a common thing. Its like Dak is the only guy that throws picks in the NFL. LOL

And if you watched at least two of those picks they were great plays by Diggs.

Exactly

Exactly, and, now that we can expect the ball to be out of Dak's hands within 3-5 seconds of taking the snap, the WRs will be getting the ball more quickly. Plus, the oline won't need to hold their blocks so long.

HE has thrown about 10 times more TDs in camp than picks. I am pretty sure that everyone would take that ratio during the season.

Exactly, I think this new scheme will help Dak, the oline, and the WRs. I think the "run game" this year will be screens to Pollard and Vaughn.

Well, and look at this offseason. Not saying that we will have identical results (though, I'd love it if we did). We beat the Bucs on the road, which was growth as it improved on what we did the previous season. Not to mention that we hadn't won a road playoff game since 1993. Unfortunately, we got embarrassed a bit by the 49ers (for different reasons). We went into the offseason fixing our WRs, a major concern, and we traded for a DB. Oh, and we drafted a NT in round 1. We haven't done that since Russell Maryland.

Damnit! I also fell under the spell of a possum costume. I think I can alter the suit to be an armadillo.
