A few here talking about how many SB's we would win entering the 1992 season. They being silly! The biggest concern was at the QB position. Troy showed a lot of promise with his leadership skills but would turn the ball over. In the 1991 season, Game #12, Troy got hurt. At that point in his career, he had thrown 31 TDs to 46 INTs. Not very good. Steve Beuerlein comes in and behind a young and hungry defense, Steve wins 4 in a row and takes them to the playoffs and even wins a Wild Card game against the Bears. The following game we got blown out by the Lions. Spirits were up no doubt. But don't let these silly knuckleheads try to tell you we were all thinking multiple SB wins entering the 1992 season. Entering the 1993 season? Hell yeah we were!
Back to the QB concerns. In 1989, with the SECOND overall pick, Jimmy drafted his former QB at Miami, Steve Walsh. Many believed Jimmy wasn't sold on Aikman because of his recklessness with the ball. Jimmy gambled and traded Steve Walsh for some draft picks and crossed his fingers with Aikman and brought in Steve Beuerlein as his backup. Other than his leadership and confidence in himself, not many predicted he would turn it around like he did. It reminds me of, in a way, Dak and Rush. Steve Walsh and Beuerlein, both were limited like the way Rush is. Dak has great leadership and has all the confidence you'd want in a franchise QB, like Troy had, but Dak just hasn't put it all together like Troy end up doing. To be fair to Dak, he doesn't have the "The Great Wall of Dallas" "The Playmaker" a Jay Novacek and an Emmitt Smith backing him up. Plus, a very smart coach who majored in psychology, Jimmy Johnson. IMO, Troy was the greatest bus driver the world has ever seen. And that's no knock on him either. I always pick him as the most underrated QB of all time.
That's my take on entering the 1992 season. What a great time to be a Cowboys fan!
