10) He's playing average and you're all so excited you think he's playing great.

Health and switching sides. I usually don't listen to Deion Sanders' drivel but he explained a couple of weeks ago that Mo has a natural tendency to make a 1st step with (I believe) his right foot. It automatically put him out of position when he played the other side and he spent the rest of the play playing catch up. Where he's lined up now allows him to make that natural first step and instinctually open his hips to the correct side and play naturally. It made sense and the results seem to bear some of this out.

Wut? @CVN68_Cowboys meet your new battle buddy.

Explain, Temo...

It just feels like a Ken Hamlin type of deal where we're so used to bad play that something that's average feels like it's great.

I feel like most of the plays he's made that people are so excited by, he just barely gets there in time, or the pass is just a little under thrown or over thrown. I'll admit that I haven't watched all-22 and sat there and studied his play, so I could be totally wrong (and hope I am). But that's the overall impression I get and I'm worried that he'll appear to regress when he inevitably has those situation where he doesn't get there in the nick of time.

The only thing I know is virtually every member of the secondary is improved....and we know the db coach is new soooooooo.....

See this is what I mean. We're still 22nd in the league in yards per pass attempt given up. That's not good. The only thing that's changed this year is that we have what could be the best offense in the league to cover for the inadequacies of the defense.

health and renewed confidence which could be in part because of coaching change
This.

I originally based his improvement on health and a full Training Camp, but over time, I'm starting to wonder about the new coaching situation. Seems everyone in the secondary has improved which strengthens the idea that our new coach is getting through in some way.

Ken Hamlin was average and never performed at the level that Clai has this season. You don't need the all-22 to see that Mo is playing at a high level, finally.

I've beaten this to death, and I'm tired of it, really. But I'm glad to see that you, at least, can admit in your post that you may be wrong.

Mo has been our best DB, better than Jones even (some may disagree, Jones is right there on his heels, but Mo has been a stud thus far).

I believe he's better because he hasn't been missing practices and games battling injuries. His development was being stunted by all the injury issues he had his first few seasons.

The Ken Hamlin thing is mostly because I remember when they gave him that contract after his first year with us and I was like... "what? This guy never seemed like the real deal to me." And I kinda feel that way about Mo.

Anyway, for what it's worth I do think he's been our best corner, but then I still think we have an average secondary and a **** pass rush, so that doesn't mean too much to me.

Confidence means so much to a CB. It can make all the difference. He is also heathy and probably a little smarter. The more you play the smarter you become about the game but confidence is a major factor

Oh, Temo, our pass rush is horrid. Which highlights the load that our DBs have had to take on.

Imagine a couple DE's with a combined 20-25 sacks on this squad at year's end. DE must be a number one priority in the draft/free agency

He's going to get burned. He's a CB. Not a single one in the league doesn't get burned. It's a different Mo this season and you don't need to look at All 22 to see it. If you've watched at all the kid is playing with a whole new level of confidence and swagger. He's sticking his head in there on tackles and covering like no one on this team has since the early days of Newman and Deion before him. He's next level right now and the only thing that will derail him is injury (which, in itself, is valid concern).

1. Maturity.

2. Really slow learner.

3. Having to re-sign for only 3M woke him up.

4. Coaching (Old DB coach gone).

5. Byron Jones at Safety

6. Scandrick not on the field to Bully him.

7. Moved from Right CB to Left CB.

8. Dak acted as a faith healer and gave him some of his excess moxie.

9. Healthy with full training camp.

I'm nervous that now that he bumped his head he will go back to sucking again

He's a talented player and was drafted sixth overall for a reason. Cornerback is a difficult position and it takes time and experience to learn.

It didn't help that he was battling injuries through most of his rookie contract.
