Why is everyone saying RB in 1st?

I just don't get it?! Where was Murray selected? There are other needs.....Even BPA rules out a RB most likely. I see RB maybe in 3rd, just need to throw bodies at that D IMO.

RB in 1st.....Really?

I think BPA is going to be guard, tackle or RB. wont be surprised to see them go Offense again.

I think its bpa. If a corner is there. Take EM. if Gurley or Gordon is there take em. A lot of positions im open to taking. Idk if we go RB early. We may wait until the second to get a zone blocking scheme fit. I'm just happy we have leeway

I completely agree...this draft is incredibly deep at the position and getting a quality back in either rounds 2 or 3 (and possibly 4th) is not at all outside the realm (although I think there may be a fairly significant drop off after 3rd round)...I see draft predictions where as many as 10-15 RB's will go in first 3 rounds, several of whom look like all around featured backs but didn't get the publicity of Gurley or Gordon (e.g., that kid from Indiana)...I say we stick to a BPA strategy with our first pick and/or trade back to pick up an additional premium pick and use those to focus on BPA (hopefully Dline and DB)...my two cents.

I think this is the scenario especially if Gurley and Gordon are already gone prior to our selection, which is what I expect...

After a major upgrade they made today on defense it should go BPA.

We saw the impact a great running game had on this team

We didn't want to pay Murray, so a adequate replacement is important

People are saying first because we are drafted very late and that is where Gurley is being projected. Without the injury Gurley flashed Adrian Peterson type potential. He would be under control for 5 years.

If they miss on Gurley most are happy with a 2nd or 3rd round pick

I think drafting Gurley or Gordon is as close as they can come to replacing Murray's production from last season. Any other position besides RB involves a steeper learning curve and more time to develop.

Given Romo's 2-3 year window, I'm guessing this would be their motivation. Get players who can contribute immediately.

Never been able to read between the lines.

I much prefer not to go RB. But if he's the best palyer on the board, I have to say that I do like that you get an extra year under contract with those first round players. That's basically the guy's whole career when you look at the lifecycle for RBs. So you're maybe not paying a big second contract for that palyer. If he's a real difference maker, that might be worth it. Think what that extra year with Murray might have been worth.

That said, there are going to be guys who can help us there in the fourth round. There's zero reason to reach.

A running back has a good chance of playing 40+ snaps a game, which is meaningful when drafting in the first round. That isn't the case for a nosetackle for example.

I am not sure if it is only me, but reading a whole underlined paragraph is kind of annoying. Looks like the longest hyperlink ever.

I see very few people saying to take a RB in round 1.

it depends. If elite talent like Gurley drops...Dallas can't pass on him. McFadden scares heck out of me and Randle is one more dumb move away from handing in his cowboys gear. I think this is a win it all year for Dallas. Hardy probably leaves next year and there are no guarantees Dez extends with Dallas. On top of all of this Romo back surgeon says you better make a move soon or this ship is sailing. Dallas situation warrants a higher than normal draft pick at RB because they don't have starter yet.

I think this is the Cowboys philosophy regarding running backs in a nutshell.

I only want Gurley in the 1st. If hes gone then focus on CB or DT or finish off the Oline with a OT if one falls. I'm still not sold on Gordon but i wont be too disappointed if we take him.
