Why is there so much concern about operation of the draft?

I really don’t get why front offices are freaking out about doing the draft virtually. They already have to phone or email the picks in anyway.

They already make phone calls to the draft picks. I’m sure they can get landlines installed in 5-6 members houses each time and do organizational messaging across a chat platform/text message.

The only difference is that the day of interpersonal communication isn’t the same with everyone. Trades are done via phone and Im sure a GM can talk on the phone and type in a chat the on going conversations with the rest of his organization. Owners should have less influence during the time that aren’t as comfortable with technology but if teams just stick to their board and plan out all scenarios they’d be fine.

People dont like change. Ill tell you ive been doing my fantasy draft online for the last 8 years so if they need me I can help them out.

I dont understand the issues either. Yeah it creates some communication issues but it's an equal playing field for all teams still. All comes down to who is best prepared for when the unexpected happens.

The only argument I really get is the lack of ability to conduct prodays, prospect interviews, etc.

Organizational messaging would be way more difficult. I'm sure some of the guys is those organizations can barely type. And video chat isn't as efficient as being in the same room either when you're dealing with that many people.

I guess you don't know many little hackers where you live.

There are plenty out there that giggle Everytime they hack a password you think is secure.

The teams are concerned about other teams seeing their analysis and picking order.

Other team will pay big money for that.

If all the teams are linked in a big network to Roger Goode's basement..

It can and will be compromised.

Now at first pass, it seems trivial.

But millions is spent by each team getting ready for the draft.

Suddenly it stolen and used against a team?

Yikes.

It's a major problem, Grasshopper.

For all the IT security there's someone willing and capable of hacking in.

Now, whether that's a shady team paying for that or someone wanting to just mess with or terrorize NFL teams, but that's what the concern is over.

There are kids hacking Zoom conferences just for fun. Someone motivated will get into these team's virtual meetings. That's one of the reasons you see that the NFL is encouraging teams to text each other as much as they can.

They're a bunch of painfully old men who are scared of change and terrified of technology.

Look at the way the NFL determines where to place the ball after any given play, and the fact that they still have dum-dums run out with a literal chain to measure that arbitrary nonsense.

I kind of get it. My job as an attorney is managing other contract (temp) attorneys. There are issues daily. It’s much easier in an office, face to face, answering needs or just talkng it out. 99% of the work is online but working out issues is personal. They all make calls, phone in their picks etc at the draft but talking in the war room is where it gets real. I think there is a disconnect without being “live” and just using Zoom. JMO

Yeah I dont get it either, how many fantasy drafts are ran across the country? You would think the NFL could do it without a hitch? Maybe there's concern about tampering with trades or selections, but fairly easy to audit to, lol.

People don't like change and are reluctant to imagine what that change might look like when it comes to the NFL Draft. I welcome that change with one exception... we should still be given the opportunity to hear the boos that Goodell gets.

It’s an opportunity to get some steals imo..

If Dallas can’t capitalize then that’s on them but this is an opportunity to improve the team.

One reason there’s some anxiousness from fans about this is simply the hunger we all have for some live sporting events to watch. When we don’t know exactly how that will unfold, it makes some people, who are already anxious for a sporting event, a little more anxious.

They don't even have to install any landlines. There are devices that can be setup at one location that allows as many phone numbers to attach and all can hear everyone while attached. It would be easier if whoever has this devise has a landline to attach to it but a smartphone can be used also. That would mean that this person would need 2 smartphones, one for this and one for calling in the picks. I forgot the name of this device but I'm sure all or most of you have seen them in movies or commercials. They are triangular in shape.

Is Goodell going to announce the first round picks as usual? Will they pipe in boos for realism? So we're all comfortable?

I've read today that Goodell's participation in the draft will be televised in his basement (believe it or not.) That seemed kinda lame to me but we'll see how it goes. I imagine the selected players and their families might also be shown in their homes, as well. I would think that they might be allowed to forego their social spacing?! We'll see. ;)

Whatever happens should be make for some interesting changes, that's for sure. I'm certain there'll be plenty of decisions to be made as to the best ways to handle it. All of these things should make it quite different, to say the least. I'm already pretty curious to see how it comes off. I suppose we'll get to see them in their normal environments. I'm very much looking forward to it, in any event.

Won't it be awkward phoning draft picks who have a house packed with well wishers?

Is the hoodie good with IT?
