Why is there so much concern about operation of the draft?

I really don’t get why front offices are freaking out about doing the draft virtually. They already have to phone or email the picks in anyway.

They already make phone calls to the draft picks. I’m sure they can get landlines installed in 5-6 members houses each time and do organizational messaging across a chat platform/text message.

The only difference is that the day of interpersonal communication isn’t the same with everyone. Trades are done via phone and Im sure a GM can talk on the phone and type in a chat the on going conversations with the rest of his organization. Owners should have less influence during the time that aren’t as comfortable with technology but if teams just stick to their board and plan out all scenarios they’d be fine.
Because people freak out about nothing

Comfort Zone....

I think its overblown too. On the other hand, I don't know why each team couldn't have people at their facilities. limit the # of people in each room but have the necessary people close by for real time communication as needed.

I'd bet they're really worried about ratings. They can't do that in person thing where a player comes up on stage and gets a jersey and people cheer or boo.

I've read today that Goodell's participation in the draft will be televised in his basement (believe it or not.) That seemed kinda lame to me but we'll see how it goes. I imagine the selected players and their families might also be shown in their homes, as well. I would think that they might be allowed to forego their social spacing?! We'll see. ;)

Whatever happens should be make for some interesting changes, that's for sure. I'm certain there'll be plenty of decisions to be made as to the best ways to handle it. All of these things should make it quite different, to say the least. I'm already pretty curious to see how it comes off. I suppose we'll get to see them in their normal environments. I'm very much looking forward to it, in any event.

Did it say his or his MOM's basement. :muttley::lmao2:

I don't know the reason other than this year will be wildly different than any other draft in recent memory... I would hazard a guess that many are concerned with the technology. It is one thing to organize a video conference call with one organization (team) and quite another to do it with 32 teams. Can you imagine the brouhaha if a team loses connection with the NFL or just within its own organization. I sure hope the NFL and each team conducts beta-tests on the virtual draft. Otherwise, this could be a real cluster.

I had mentioned this in another thread a week or so ago.
Someone created a thread on which 10 people should be in the war room.

My response was they do not need 10 people. Only 6 or 7 at most, and can be spaced apart. If need be, one or two can leave and another person or two can come in.

Jerry, Stephen, MM, Nolan, Moore, Fassell, McClay would be the main 7, as Fassell only needs to be in later for ST's input on day 3.
He can come in when Jerry needs a refill or go to interview with Jane Slater or Ed Werder. Via FaceTime. Therefore leaving it at 6.

No Spaulding or Charlotte, no other family members, and certainly not Rowdy. They can hang him from the field goal post for all I care.

They're a bunch of painfully old men who are scared of change and terrified of technology.

Look at the way the NFL determines where to place the ball after any given play, and the fact that they still have dum-dums run out with a literal chain to measure that arbitrary nonsense.
I think the 'dumb dumbs' that measure forward progress are what you call tradition.

Same for the guys in the striped shirts. Archaic huh?

Really?

I suppose you would prefer a girl with a bikini strutting out there, bending over to look at the measurement..pumping her fist in the direction of the 1st down.?

Actually, I could go for that. Like they do n boxing like the Ring Girls carrying signs saying what round it is.

Hubba hubba..a new tradition is born.

I agree, if me and 11 of my drunkin idiot friends can figure out how to draft online without a war room of people telling us what to do, I think a billion dollar organization can figure it out...

Possibly it may expose that they have no knowledge how to operate windows or any other PC format for that matter. LOL

Yep, if people don't think that the scouts are having closed door meetings in each Teams corporate offices then I've got some land to sell you in Florida! These are people who work - they don't work from home - it is a collaborative effort and their bosses expect them to come to work!

One thing doing it this way will impact are the trades within the draft. They're used to having staff work the phones and people present to bounce ideas off and this forces them be be creative and maybe rely on themselves more than usual.

This is forcing a sterile draft on people who have never done it that way. These GM's are going to need to be really prepared better than ever if they want to maximize picks.

One thing for sure, if you had any reservations about nerds taking over the world, you can lose that now because they're controlling the NFL draft. We might not know the GM's name on every team but we're going to know some IT people.

Why do I sense this approach plays directly into JJ's shoot-from-the-hip, wildcatter, deal-maker persona??

Next to the room where they are filming Jerry and Steven and possibly MM, there is going to be a room with everybody else in it going about business as usual. There just won't be a camea in there.

Less Roger = better.

Although the Booooosssss should be heard across the US this year.
