This guy is an obvious threat. Is Parcells worried that he is to valueble? I think its time to give it a shot. Our ST play is quite average to say the least. Why not have another scoring threat on the field?

I agree. I think with the way he's playing on defense, it's worth a shot.

Don't want to lose you #1 CB now do you? I think I rather Price do it if he can.

Price sucks as a punt returner. His average is worse then Crayton's (or just a little better).

I want to see Tyson Thompson return some punts.

I understand that aspect, but injuries can happen on any part of the field. We all saw what he is capable of this pre-season. Lets get it on baby!!!

I dunno just imo, i think the extra few yards, doesnt outweigh the chance of our #1 CB getting hurt. Sure you could get injured anywhere on the field, but that doesnt mean you tempt fate and give newman better chances to get hurt. He is far too valuable to the defense. What would happen if newman is out, all of a sudden we have Henry and Glenn starting, neither of whom can guard speedy wr's. just too risky with not enough reward.

Crayton looks downright terrible at PR though, I have no idea why TT is kr but isnt doing pr's?

Newman is too valuable to be returning punts all the time. Yes, I'd like to find someone other than Crayton too, but I don't know who?

This is conspiracy theory, and I'm not usually like that. I admit I don't have any hard evidence on this (obviously), but I'm starting to think that Newman is sort of Jerry's guy and Henry is Parcells' guy. Not that Parcells hates Newman or anything like that, but that he wasn't and isn't his kind of guy.

Parcells wanted a big DT in his first draft and when he had to settle for Newman, he wasn't exactly beaming like he was in later drafts -- like he was about Ware, for example. Parcells has never seemed particularly impressed with Newman, while he's already praised Henry quite strongly. Parcells has repeatedly complained about Newman being small -- despite playing the notably skinnier Zuriel Smith -- while he loves how big and physical Henry is.

We've also heard Parcells compare Crayton to Troy Brown, one of his prize late round draft finds. I think he's going to give Crayton every opportunity to become that, and as we've witnessed before, he's going to have to see a ton of evidence to the contrary before he tries someone else.

Whatever it is, Parcells just isn't going to play Newman at PR. As a punt returner, you can put Newman in with Eddie George, Anthony Thomas, and apparently, Peerless Price.

Well, I would say that short list of candidates would be Crayton, Newman, Thompson, Barber, and perhaps Price and Glenn. I've always kind of wondered why Nate Jones never got a stronger look in the return game. I know he's small and would have a hard time breaking tackles, but he was great at it in college.

Well with the theory of not having him return punts 'cause it increases his chances of getting hurt....why do we have Roy Williams covering on special teams. More guys get hurt on kickoff returns than on any other play...

cuz roy is giving the big hits, not taking them.

Understood....but it only takes one mistake and we're hurting worse...At least with Newman we have more than one guy who can back him up...

We have Glenn to back him up, and although i think it was a good signing, i dont want glenn going against the starting WR. Having him in Nickel is nice, but if he had to start, every team is going to be going deep way more often than they are now. Newman is one of our defensive stars imo, I really dont want him getting hurt over 3-5 yards. If he was as good as dante hall at punt returns, then I think it'd be a different story.

I just think we have this "guy" who is an obvious threat in the PR game, and is also asking for the job, let him have a crack when the time is right. I would guess we might see a change this Sunday. We need this game, and Crayton is not getting it done.

I agree. Don't play him there 100% of the time, but in games like the Frisco and Raiders games, give him a shot once or twice to see if we can gain some much needed momentum. It is painfully obvious that Crayton is too tentative back there, already fumbling like twice now. He seems to wait for some big whole to open up, rather than attack straight up field. His acceleration seems to be lacking IMO.

TT has striaght line speed. Hes not that quick. As a PR you have to evade guys alot sooner than on a KR. KR is more about finding a seem and busting through whereas PR require more agility. Not alot 6'1 220 PR for a reason

You must not have seen Donovin Darius go down for the season returning a punt week 1 or 2 I believe. Parcells said he's gonna pick his spots for T-New's punt returns. But he has been the most consistent player in the secondary this year, and I for 1 don't want to lose him to injury.

Who knows.

That is the primary reason he was drafted higher than Marcus Trufant, because of his return ability.
