1 simple reason... he is a fan! Some owners are are effective with being the silent front man. But, Jerry is like us... 1 of a kind guy who says "if U want a job done, you better do it yourself".

If you ever wonder what you would do if you owned the Cowboys... chances are you would do some of the same things Jerry Jones has done over the past 20 years!

who here can say if they owned the Cowboys they would hire a GM... I know i wouldnt, I would run the team until I was old as dirt!

I embrace Jerry and connect to my inner Al Davis!

With some of your other threads, I can't take you seriously anymore..

Jerry Jones is a fan of himself, first and foremost. I do feel that he's a fan of the Cowboys as well, but they're secondary. If it were the other way around, we'd have the best GM money could buy.

There all fans.

Jerry being a fan isnt helping us any. And he never had any particularly special place for the cowboys. they just happened to be for sale.

He was all set to buy the chargers but his dad talked him out of it.

And, I can tell you the first thing I would do is bring in competent people to run the organization. You have to know your limits.

I have to admit that if I bought the Cowboys, I would probably run it myself also. Hell, I run my Madden franchise so it cant be that much more difficult!!!

My Madden franchise has won the SB 3 years in a row with a 98 overall team rating. I sign the free agents, I make the draft picks, I make all the trades, and I am one hell of a head coach as well.

I would hire the best GM I could find. I would want the best guy for the job. I would not run the GM duties myself because I am a fan of the Cowboys. I want them to win, and I can set aside my ego and hire a person who is qualified to do the job. Jerry is unable to do that because he has no self control of his ego.

Jerry Jones' GMing of the Cowboys just because he owns it makes as much sense as Jerry insisting on being lead surgeon in a hospital if he were to buy one.

I don't believe Jerry is a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. If he were a TRUE fan he would be on this board complaining about the lousy job our GM is doing and calling for his immediate replacement!

Stop playing on rookie mode :laugh2:

I said it in a thread a while back if I owned the Cowboys I'd hire the best GM I could find and get out of the way.

I thought we agreed to keep that on the down-low, what the hell are you doing???

You are going to hurt my rep around here:)

If I couldn't reasonably do the job, i'd hire someone, of course. But the case with Jerry, I think he can do the job. And that he's even growing more into it as the years pass.

For the most part I think it's just "arm-chair" general managers that don't think Jerry is fit for the job. Their Madden Cowboys run better than Jerry's actual Dallas Cowboys, in franchise mode, so suddenly the critic.

:madden:

:spidey:

That was going to be my answer. I'm going to hire the best people in football to run the show so I can sit back and enjoy my investment. Sure I would have my opinions but would expect the people I hired to decide which ones are good or not.

In all honesty, I think Jerry is a fan of course, but actually think after Parcells, Jerry has become a good player-personell guy. His problems are hiring an all-star coaching staff. Something he sucks at.

Being a fan doesn't qualify him in running a franchise.

He's incompetent as a GM.

Only if you were an idiot. If you want to play GM you enter a fantasy league. You want to win for real you hire the best people possible to run your team.

*Shrugs* I don't know what I'd do if I owned the team. It's VERY EASY to sit on a internet forum and claim "Well if I was a millionare and put millions of dollars into the Cowboys I'd do this" and shake a fist about how I'd know how to do it so much better if I was doing it.

That's easy since, you know, I'm not actually putting any of my actual money into the owning of the Cowboys from a keyboard.

How I'd do it if I was the one spending millions of dollars to own the franchise...I don't know. I've never been in that position to say with any actual, factual, evidence what I'd do.
