The problem with Ryan Leaf and Johnny Manziel is summed up in this saying …

"Talent can take you where character can't keep you."

The guy made a lot of sense. I didn't watch him play in college, but if you need to buy time or a busted play to succeed as a QB, that's not going to work as a rule in the NFL. I used to think Romo would do that purposely on occasion and it used to bother me. But he could throw from the pocket and had many more redeeming qualities.
Romo and Favre had size on their side and, in Favre's case, he had the perfect situation by getting traded to the Packers and getting hooked up with Holgrem and, in Romo's case, he got to sit on the bench and learn the game.
Johnny had neither. He was thrust in too soon, he was smaller, undisciplined and wasn't given time to absorb the game. Hence, his failure.
