Why keep 2 kickers?

If Parcells is only planning to take one kicker to the game, why keep 2? Does anyone really think he's planning on leaving Vandy home? Keeping two kickers on the roster to you have one as a kick off specialist is at least somewhat understandable, but I don't get keeping two at the expense of other players that may have helped on game day if you're not planning on playing both. It's not like teams are lining up to sign Suisham if he is released.

you only get to dress 45 for the games.i suspect he feels with the t.o. hammy, flo coming off injuries, vandy having problems, and the fact it will be very hot, that for this game he needed an extra position player more than he needed the extra kicker. the plan may change after this game.plus keeping a kicker gives you some insurance if vandy can't go. had the cut sushi and then vandy could'nt go this week who would kick?

most reports suggest Suisham is the kicker this week in Jax.

like it or not, we need to wait and see if Vandy can get it on track. we are going to be in a ton of close games.

I would expect a kicker will be cut as soon as Vandy is healthy and can be evaluated in a couple real games.

If Vandy is nailing all his field goals than Suisham will be cut after the second or third week to free up the roster spot.

If Vandy continues to struggle with the field goals however, he will be cut and Suisham will take over.

Just how I see it playing out.

If that happened, could we not just have resigned him before the game? Is there a rule on how long a player has to be on a team's roster before he can play on game day?

Yep, they keep Suisham until Vandy is healthy and showing his head is back in the game (correcting whatever is preventing power and making him slice it right all the time).

I'm guessing Suisham goes to game this weekend so Vandy gets another week to get it together.

You don't cut the most accurate kicker in NFL without doing all you can to get him back to normal, particularly when you paid him millions and he has proven he can do it in past.

Considering how Suisham was absolutely destroying the ball on kickoffs in preseason, if released he could very well get snatched up off waivers by another team.

You certainly can't take the chance of cutting Suisham, having him sign elsewhere, and then Vandy gets hurt or gets worse..

Because he has questions at kicker. He only takes one because he need someone else dressed and he is willing to risk kicking problems for a single game.

you assume no one else would want to sign him?thats a dangerous assumption. one roster spot hurts for developmental guys but the one extra spot we loose by carrying an extra kicker really would affect the game roster unless we actuvated both
