Why not add injury clauses into players contracts?

Injuries are a part of the game, but so is team building! How can you build a team and you're paying a guy a huge amount of money, and he gets hurt often, that's strapping our team from getting other resources. I'm just it would be hard as hell for Jerry to sell this to an agent/players, but at this point, we're paying too much, and not getting the money back on our investments with these injuries. The last injury clause I remember was with Gerald McCoy who rightfully needed one. It's just a thought, how about it. Now please give your thoughts!!!

Ah, more pikers trying to limit the millions players make for playing what everyone knows is a dangerous game. You mad? Why does no one think about the NFL penalizing inept ownership? Lol. Also, don't know where "we're paying them" or having to worry about "our investment" comes from there, buddy. You choose to be along for the ride of the team's contract decisions like we all are.

Your thoughts???

Yeah I find it comical when guys say "we" or "us" so much here. Guys trying to live vicariously through athletes without taking the bruises. It is kind of sad and weird. Identifying themselves as part of an organization they do not work for.

Because if the Cowboys insist on those kinds of clauses in their contracts they wont be able to sign anyone. Players will sign with teams that don't have them. I'm sure the player's perspective is that they are the ones risking their health, and that's what a team is paying them to do.

I doubt they are even allowed under the CBA anyway unless there is a question about health at the time the contract is being negotiated. That's the difference with McCoy. He came in with health concerns and didn't have that many options.

This is silly! A player gets paid their market value at the time of the contract. Is there an injury clause in your contract?

This is where I am in the owners camp… they try to build a team and have to pay enormous sums of money to one or 2 players and on one play the whole thing comes crashing down and now you don’t have the player but you still are holding the bag

Teams can buy insurance on a player and get cap relief based on insurance payouts. The Cowboys have insured 87 million of Daks contract.

My short answer is agents and the players' association won't let that happen. They want their clients to get all the guaranteed money that they can because, well, that's their job.

There’s this thingy called a players union!!
They’ve been slowly making the push towards wanting “fully guaranteed” contract like in baseball. I’ve never had any interest in gambling but I think I’d bet your direction is a direction they’re not willing to go under any circumstances!

I am almost positive Jerry had the leverage to add that into Dak's contract.

There is not a single agent who would allow a player to sign an injury clause giving a team an out from paying them. as mentioned above. there is a premium for playing a sport that will more likely than not result in an injury that will sideline you for up to a year or more. Plus the NFL players association would advise its members against considering it an option in the contract.
