they practice this stuff if people get hurt and they had a plan to do this had it been IN GAME..coaches know the why and why not and that by far good enough.,,.even with Martin out and Hoffman in that Line looked better , best Lineup yet.. now with plan had Guyton been out long term maybe they work in Richards..

for me, id keep that lineup but if steele struggles early against the lions pull him insert Guyton at RT..its about the best 5 not developing players..
I'm not sure we'd play Guyton at RT since we haven't practiced him there. Maybe since it was his college position.

I agree that the Smith/Bass combo could be more of a short-term answer by the team. I guess it depends on how much they like Smith at LG. Is keeping him there if there's a long-term need at tackle and pairing Bass with him better than playing Richards at LT.

I’d rather see Hoffman at OG that dude has a nastiness to his game.
I don't know. I think Hoffman would get exposed. His problem at center, which is why I preferred Beebe, is power. He can get pushed back. And center is a more protected position than guard. I think good DTs would power through him. Now, being a young player, he could be constantly working on improving his power and turn out better than I think. He certainly has the nasty.

I don't think Guyton will practice much this week because of his knee injury. He'll be limited at best.

he still was a natural right tackle. Come in as the swing and if needed Guyton takes over 4 steele , when Hutchinson making Steele look like Chaz green you might see it differently LOL .

I don't think Richards is viewed as an LT. I think they wanted to go with experience
Maybe not. They were playing him pretty much exclusively at guard in the preseason before Edoga got injured and they needed him at LT. However, he drew some praise for his play.

I agree with the experience comment.

I'm not opposed to Guyton taking over for Steele. Steele hasn't looked much better than Guyton, and worse at times, and he's a veteran. I just am not sure they would consider it at the moment since Guyton is injured and hasn't practiced at that spot in the pros. I'm certainly not opposed to Guyton being the swing if he can go but the coaches feel it would be better to rest him if possible.

hey it may not happen but we'll find out who's right. Just a gut feeling.. by the way i just rewatched the third and fourth quarter, bass was solid couldn't see the every snap form the OL they dont always show that angle but i saw 1 mistake on missed block down field that got Dowdle tackled sooner than it could have been had he made the block maybe a nice 10+ yard run ..

Pure speculation on my part but I think they believe their best offensive line has Bass on the line vs Asim.
I agree with you.

It seems like they’re more about the player’s overall grade than who’s playing what position.

Like they have linemen 1-9, and if they lose one of the top 5, they’re willing to shuffle starters around to get lineman #6 in his best position.

When Guyton went out with an injury, I thought Richards would be his direct replacement. I'm not sure why we instead moved Smith to LT. I guess we don't like Richards as much there as we like Bass at guard.
The brain trust project Richards as a guard, not a tackle....

Richards is likely practicing at RT.

Waletzko was inactive.

Bass has real game experience. Asim does not.

Yep and I think I agree with them. I’m not sure why Bass graded out so poorly but the overall line looked better.

He definitely could be since Waletzko is the only other backup RT we've got. Of course, based on what they did Sunday night, the backup plan at RT may have been moving Guyton to RT, Tyler to LT and Bass to LG. McCarthy doesn't seem to be afraid to move starters.

Thanks for that. I have not gotten to that part of the game in my rewatch.

I know they started him out there in the preseason, but I'm not sure that means they project him as a guard. They had the first-rounder Guyton, could move the first-rounder Smith and then the veteran Edoga. I think they just thought they were covered at left tackle so get Richards work with the twos at guard. The Edoga injury changed that up ... and I'm glad because Edoga sucks as a LT.
