The word is this is a solo search by Jerry. How do we know he hasn't made Ben Johnson his primary target? Jerry and Campbell are close enough to give him indirect feedback on what it would take. Who did he compare Jason Witten to again? As for Ben Johnson.....we know he's a top-shelf coordinator and play caller. Any candidate wanna go to a team that gives them the best chance of winning ASAP and that as a rule starts with good defense and a franchise QB. Many are now say he's going to the Raiders ( Brady personally want him ) but NOT so fast. Adam Schaefer does an excellent job breaking down ( below) what he's walking into if he takes the Raiders job ( no QB and in the same division with Andy Reid, Sean Payton and Jim Harbaugh, all have elite QBs ). So if you are Ben here are your options
**Jags....not bad
**Bears...lots of management layers ( Poles, Williams and owner) Poles on the hot seat.
**Saints...Glenn's job
**Jets.........bad job
**Raiders ....see above
** Cowboys ......top 15 defense and franchise QB in place ( I know some rolling their eyes about Dak but look below at what he and Kellen did together. Imagine what Ben can do with him ). The Cowboys are structured exactly with what wants.....he deals directly with the GM, Pres and owner.

Look Jerry has seen pressure and embarrassment like never before. I think it's 50/50 he has his sight set on Ben Johnson. Similar to when he hired Jimmy....let him build his own coaching staff and player personnel.

It sounds good because he's a hot hot hot name, knowing Jerry he doesn't always go for the hot name, he'd rather go for a retread or someone that we may have never heard of. Does Jerry know something about Ben that we don't, not sure they're able to talk to them yet for them to get a better feel for him. In time, when that window opens, we'd be doing ourselves a disservice if we didn't at least give him a call.

Could detroit block us from talking to him?

Ben Johnson I’m excited who wouldn’t be . Pair him up with a young aggressive DC that JOHNSON Picks and let’s take on the Eagles and Quinn’s Cowboy squad.

I’d imagine another team would offer him a much larger contract. Plus he either gets to pick his QB or has a very young, moldable QB in most of the other options.
Kind of hard to mold a QB that's stuck in his ways, and has the organization to back him up. That's why i'm waiting to see if Mike goes to Chicago and what he can do to elevate Williams

Dak is stationary but so is Goff . Johnson should be able to work with Dak. Add a RB to pair with Dowdle and a receiver other side of Lamb with Tolbert in the slot .

“ Hete we Go “ !!! :starspin:

No one thinks they will pay the 15m per Johnson supposedly wants

Tell me, is there an offensive Coordinator out there that would not be successful with the Lions' offensive roster?

Their offensive line is one of the best, if not the best, in the league.

They have two of the better RBs in the NFL and maybe the best tandem RBs. They have quality WRs, and an outstanding TE. They don't really have a weakness on offense. Their QB is mid, but in that offense he can be exceptional and has had some exceptional games during the year.

Maybe Johnson gets some credit for the way Goff has played, but I wonder if Johnson would have the same success with Cowboys roster. Would Ben Johnson make Zeke run like Montgomery? or Rico run like Gibbs? I would have an open mind, but I would be cautious with Ben Johnson.

The last time Jerry actually went out after a highly desirable candidate was Bill Parcells in 2003. Is the organization in need of a new stadium any time in the near future? There's your answer.

I'd love for Jerry Jones to select Ben Johnson. No guarantee that he will be a great HC or even a good one. But, I'd love to see them give him a shot.

It would show me that they weren't cheap (they would have to pay him a reported $15M AAV). It would also show they may be serious again about winning. He would likely get to pick his staff, have say in personnel, and may be able to have them be active early in free agency.

I might actually be excited about the Cowboys again.

Yeah I would agree. Granted I'm a Ben Johnson fan, and would welcome him with open arms, but there does need to be some caution built in here. This offense wont be doing a 180 under Johnson unless we increase the talent level. Jason Garrett was an offensive genius with the 2016 Cowboys team and I'd argue Detroit's 2024 offense had way more talent.
