Yeah Jerry doesnt know him. But more importantly, top candidates are going to want more control than Jerry is willing to give. You know, like choosing their own assistants and deciding who starts, etc

The thing that is going to disqualify Ben Johnson is the salary requirement and I highly doubt if Jerry is going to shell out 15 Million a year for a coach when he is out there peddling "performance based contracts"

It sounds good because he's a hot hot hot name, knowing Jerry he doesn't always go for the hot name, he'd rather go for a retread or someone that we may have never heard of. Does Jerry know something about Ben that we don't, not sure they're able to talk to them yet for them to get a better feel for him. In time, when that window opens, we'd be doing ourselves a disservice if we didn't at least give him a call.

Could detroit block us from talking to him?
Jerry doesn't do unknown quantities. Ben Johnson is a hot name because of his offensive coordinator prowess. There is no proof he is going to be any good as a HC or maybe he will surprise everyone. Jerry however will always go with the safe bet, someone who has been HC.

I don't see this ownership getting in a bidding war for a first time HC.

He's a hot name now, he can and has shown, to be picky about what team he wants to lead.

even if it's a older guy who's out of touch with today's players

he's not willing to give up that much control, BJ is not coming. Crazy how we say that, but we're "talking" to Deion

Jerry doesn’t personally know Ben Johnson.

That’s why.
You think he personally knew Scott Tolzein? or Lunda Wells? You think he knew Scott Linehan?

Fans want to take the Kellen Moore example, and automatically think Jones forced every coach on MM and he only hires people he knows. It's typical fan overreaction.

Yeah I would agree. Granted I'm a Ben Johnson fan, and would welcome him with open arms, but there does need to be some caution built in here. This offense wont be doing a 180 under Johnson unless we increase the talent level. Jason Garrett was an offensive genius with the 2016 Cowboys team and I'd argue Detroit's 2024 offense had way more talent.
This has been my feeling as well. The biggest caveat though is that Amon Ra became the guy we see after Johnson was promoted

I don’t see Jerry Jones getting into a “bidding war” for any coaching prospect.

He doesn’t go with the hot guy for two reasons. One, the hot guy would garner more media attention and Jerry wants to be the face of the team. Two, the hot guy will want something above minimum wage

All I'm saying is Adam S makes a compelling argument of huge challenges to win as a Raider HC. Make no mistake, 2 years of below-500 ball gets an HC seat hot really fast. Also with Jerry he doesn't worry about getting fired.......he will make him all five years. lol

I really want a head coach this time from the defensive side. We just went 15 years or whatever with an offensive guy. Clearly, it hasnt worked for this team.

Kind of like the same thing Micah saying he doesn't want the bag, but will end up getting the bag (biggest bag)
Also claiming that he doesn't expect 15 million is easy but is he going to accept an offer that is going to rank him near the bottom of what some active HC's are earning today? Highly doubt it.

Because he doesn’t want anything to do with this circus
I think he’d jump on it if he got a real offer. But he’s not gonna take a Jerry offer. If you want a good HC you have to pay them. Jerry looking for the guy who will work for minimum wage on a short term deal. That’s leaves you only the desperate as an option
