Why not Derrick Brooks LB?

It's a foregone conclusion that Carpenter is a bust and will not be with us in the future.

Why don't we sign Brooks for the year? At the very least he will be better than Carp in coverage and probably be able to provide some relief for our very thin LBs. If nothing else, his experience along and leadership would be big for our D.

ESPN radio mentioned his destination would be the Pats......if they don't take Junior Seau.

My comment is that if this goes longer than 6 posts, then I lose faith in the ability of the community to ignore a useless thread.

25 Int in his career. I don't think our entire roster has 25 int in all their careers combined.

Can he be worse than Carp in run support?

I don't think he can cover....anymore.
We want to develop the young guys, not get older.

32 teams haven't given him a contract, even Chicago who lost Urlacher. And you think he could come in, learn our system, (3-4 versus 4-3) and be better than Carpenter? O-o-kay

If he were just used in obvious passing situations he wouldn't have to learn the base 3-4 system. He would only have to learn the nickel and perhaps dime packages. I don't think that would benefit Dallas or Brooks. He probably doesn't want to be only a 3rd down linebacker.

the only reason Carpenter is still on this roster is because he was a 1st rounder playing out his contract.

maybe Brooks demand too much money...play time etc....there would be many factors.

The argument that we want to get younger is only true to certain degree. If we see William as someone who CAN produce then fine. But saying use Carpenter because he is younger even though he just plain SUCK is ludicrous.

From what I saw on either ESPN or NFL bottom ticker, that the Bears and Pats offered him a deal, but he went and became an analyst intsead.

I saw that last night.

Beat me to it. I think he's realized there isn't a good offer out there for him and he is going to hang them up.

What makes you say that? Just curious because he has been very good in coverage his entire career. Since 2001 (when the stats start) he has 60 passes defensed, including 7 last year. Ray Lewis is comparable with 62 in that same span and had 9 last season.

I think the real issue is that at 36 Brooks is done but to say that he "can't cover at all" is an un-educated opinion.

Would rather resign Matt Stewart or Matt Wilhelm. Both know Wade's system.

It's not so much the money that he wants, he wants a guarentee for the entire season and no team is willing to give him that right now.

I can't say I blame him, if I were him, at this stage, I wouldn't want to go bouncing from team to team for 3-4 weeks at a time.
