Why not give Ellis a trade?

Why waste our cap space in the future years for a guy who doesnt fit the system and clearly doesnt even want to be here? I say we trade ellis to the highest bidder be it a 3rd or 4th round pick, or a swap for a legit RT or FS. Why let Ellis's negative attitude affect our young defense all year long?

After we got Hatcher I knew Ellis wasn't going to crack the starting lineup.. we've got depth without Ellis.. Trade him please.

Because Hatcher is a very raw rookie and Ellis is a seasoned vet.

you cant just throw a rookie to the lions just like that, and without ellis we have no depth.

Or if Hatcher shows out in TC

Even if Hatcher shows something huge in TC, he won't be able to give you a huge contribution this year -- rookies fade hard during the season and he's making a huge jump.

You won't get any arguement from me on that.

Apparently Ellis options is play or retire at least according to BP. I think Ellis will go out and do his job and depending on what happens this season will determine his future with this club or with someone else.

I'd give Hatcher a year getting used to the system with Greg Ellis there, and then let Ellis go when Hatcher is more seasoned, meaning next year.

Even if Hatcher is solid - keep Ellis for security. Just make him stew on the bench

Ok, think about this, if ou trade Ellis, whom is the only second player last year that got 8 sacks, and if something happens to Ware God forbid, then you dont have a pass rusher.

ITs like Parcells said, (of course ive heard JJT i think say they told ellis he could pursue a trade to a 4-3 team) Parcells said, Ellis has 2 options, play or retire.

Do you think Ellis is going to retire, i dont think so.

So, I think Ellis should buckle up and play, sure he has a reason to be upset when Parcells played Canty more last year, and we suffered on defense. But now Canty has more experience. So, in reality, Ellis should benefit from this move, and he should look at it another way, and someone should bring this up to him

In 1992, the Dallas Cowboys traded for Charles Haley, whom helped the Cowboys with his fierce pass rush get to the super bowl. Jim Jeffcoat was 2nd string, but at same time, the Dallas Cowboys defense was # 1 in the NFL when we plalyed the Eagles in conference game.

So, if Jim Jeffcoat, whom was a starter played 2nd team, etc, so should Ellis. At the same time, Ellis is under contract until 2009 end of season, so he should play.

Hopefully, Ellis will play his butt off do get a better payday next year by another team. That way, both he and the team both benefit.

Also, perhaps be beats out some competition in there and begins to like the "new" defense. Maybe, through his better play, BP keeps him in there longer than he otherwise thought he would be.

Thats the exact same logic everyone had about him last year, but at what point do we pull the plug on ellis? He could still be a full time starter for another team and be producing good sack numbers, that in and of itself creates value for him. I say trade him to a team desperately needing a pass rushing 4-3 DE for as high of a draft pick as you can get. His contract is friendly for a trade, hes bringing a negative vibe to our young D, cut the cord and let him go elsewhere.

Next year he will be a year older and the value for him goes down, theres got to be serious trade considerations here.

If Ellis is smart...he heard what his coach had to say...

He can play, or retire...

If he's smart, and I hope he is...he will have a good year and help this team.

Or....?

I hope he understands that...it was directly from the Tuna.

We only have 2 proven pass rushers. I'm not willing to trade one of them because he is unhappy.

I've got 3 thoughts on why Parcells said what he did:

1) You've got to nip that type of thing in the bud. The minute you give in to one disgruntled player, you've sent a message to the rest of the team. Guaranteed you'll get repeat performances (witness the Bengals after they let Dillon walk). The Pats are taking the same line with Seymour--play or sit home & don't get paid.

2) Ellis clearly understands that he's got no choice but to knuckle down & play. Even tho he's pouting, he & his agent have to be smart enough to realize that playing under Parcells burnishes your resume. Look at LA--he & Parcells never really got along, but he kept his mouth shut, did what was asked of him, & managed a fairly decent contract from SFO even at his age.

3) It also may help bump up his trade value. If you make noises that you want to trade him, teams will realize that & be less likely to offer you something in return (figuring you'll cut the guy). Say something like Parcells did publicly, then quietly ask around--at least you've got some leverage for trading him, since teams realize you will keep him rather than cut him.

Ellis isn't going anywhere.

Our pass rush (or lack there-of) won't survive the loss of our 2nd best pass rusher.

I predict that if Ellis is not the starter, he will be very very unhappy, and it won't be a secret either. I believe they will be willing to trade Greg Ellis, but it's too early to give him away for nothing. Let someone lose a starting DE in training camp (and they will), and then you'll see a team willing to give a little more for Greg Ellis than they should.

That's my opinion anyway...if no one offers jack, then they'll put up with his unhappiness.

I'd take a 3rd rounder for him in a heartbeat, but hes aging so I doubt a team dishes that out.
