Why not give Ellis a trade?

We only have 2 proven pass rushers. I'm not willing to trade one of them because he is unhappy.

While I agree, it's not that simple...

The vermin known as the Dallas media will seek him out weekly and try to get a negative quote, just like they will do with Owens...

I don't know what the answer is at this point. I do know that I have lost all respect for Ellis as he IS under contract and making millions...

That bandwagon is filling up fast.

If Ellis plays well as a situational player this year (whether he likes it or not) his trade value will be higher. Right now no one will give us anything for him because they think we just want to get rid of him and don't need him. If he plays well as a situational pass rusher his value will go up. As of right now we are not going to make any trade until we find out how good Hatcher and Carpenter are. If Carpenter can pass rush then we don't need Ellis as much and if Hatcher is a decent DE then we need Ellis even that much less. But don't expect any deals to get done until Parcells is satisfied with those two.

Why waste our cap space in the future years for a guy who doesnt fit the system and clearly doesnt even want to be here? I say we trade ellis to the highest bidder be it a 3rd or 4th round pick, or a swap for a legit RT or FS. Why let Ellis's negative attitude affect our young defense all year long?

After we got Hatcher I knew Ellis wasn't going to crack the starting lineup.. we've got depth without Ellis.. Trade him please.

because without ellis, dallas only has one proven passrusher..and thats ware..ellis is needed no matter if fans dont like the idea, without him, this defense does get very much pressure..especially in the nickle..and with the teams dallas plays this yr, they'll be playing more nickle then any other scheme this yr

For the reasons you mention, I'm on board with trading Ellis if the Cowboys can get a veteran player of similar quality for him.

The Cowboys are trying to win now. An extra 2007 3rd or 4th round pick doesn't help now.

If Ellis were to be traded I would be shocked if it was for another player. Those kind of trades are pretty rare any more. Besides you know JJ will want that extra draft pick next year.

No doubt it is true that player-for-player trades don't happen very often. They are difficult to pull off. But they can happen and one would think they Cowboys would prefer a player who can contribute now over a future pick.

JJ likes extra draft picks. Not sure that he'd be willing to part with Eillis this year for a future pick, though.

Well said communicator...

The weakest part of this defense is the pass rush and you just can't banish your 2nd best pass rusher for a can of beans and tray of nachos.

Personally I think our "Nickel defense" with Canty or Spears moving to DT, Ware at DE, Ellis at DE, taking a linebacker off of the field and bringing in Glenn is a better defense than our 3-4-- that way Roy can operate as a SS/LB.

The team is one injury on the DL from Ellis starting at DE/DT..then he gets his snaps regardless of his *****es.

This whole thing is about Glover's deal now that he's left. Ellis thinks that he can leave here and that he will command a last big contract like Glover has and leave the NFl on a big golden parachute.

Ain't going to happen. Ellis has NEVER gone to a Pro Bowl because he's not good enough. Never has been. He's a mid-level talent that up until now, has been our only talent, other than Glover, along a weak-puppy DL.

We now have taken big strides and spent huge amounts of money and draft picks to rebuild the DL and Ellis is unhappy as he's not gotten any of the bling that's being thrown around.

Sorry, he has a contract and he must play.

Unless some team gets an injury in their 4-3 line and they need a DT like Ellis and that team has something we want..like a DB or an OL, etc.

Then, through happenstance and bad luck to somebody, Ellis gets his wish.

But otherwise..no.

Play or sit or retire.

I'm sure contract is part of it... but also is the desire to be a starter in a scheme that he's use too. I can udnerstand that. No one likes change and a 30-some-year-old 4-3 DE is probably pretty rigid.
