Why Not Hire Kirk Ferentz?

I didn't say he would pull up stakes for an OL job- but he would for asst. head coach and a promise that he would be head coach of the DALLAS freakin COWBOYS in a year or two.

Actually... they said GB made the decision on McCarthy 5 minutes AFTER Ferentz said he wasn't interested...
I have a hard time understanding how a 49ers Assistant merits a HC job. I really do not get that. My only theory is that he has worked with Favre and they want him back.

That has to be a big part of it.

He's a young offensive mind rooted in the WCO who's worked with the Packers and Favre in the past.

An uninspiring hire, IMO.

Of course, better a bad hire than taking one of our own.

Thanks, Cheeseheads.

I'd rather have Mike Sherman any day.

McCarthy is seen as somewhat of an offensive genious and QB guru. Name was really hot 2 years ago when Saints were highest scoring team in the league. Worked with Montana, Farve and credited with developing Brooks and Delhomme, Hasselbeck.

Not just an SF asst. coach. Was with NO, KC, and GB before that.

He's their to tutor Rodgers.

Still makes no sense. Stay at the college level as one of the best coaches in the nation, make more money, and look for an NFL job when you can become the head coach of a team you to your liking. I assure you this is very very unrealistic. Just because were the Dallas "Freakin" Cowboys doesn't mean a guy will leave to become our assistant with a "promise" that he'll be the head coach.

The Guy is making almost $2 million a year at Iowa. Yeah, he's going to come be an assistant for the boys for a million(maybe) a year. It aint gonna happen. Put your bottle away. :)))

This is probably the best reason why he wouldn't come out for anything other than an HC position. Besides, I haven't seen anything in the media that had him looking at a coordinator job anyway.

He won't come out. He's been saying it for awhile....some people just won't listen.

I've also heard rumblings that he'd like to go to Penn State when JoePa hangs it up.

We have a winner. There's been a lot of contact with some big time boosters about making this happen. More on Penn State's end though.

Plus his daughter is a PSU student.

My hope is that Ferentz is still available when Parcells hangs it up. I would love to see him as the new coach. I'm not really worried about the transition from college to the NFL. I think he would be the ideal candidate to replace Parcells. He's from that coaching tree and he's fairly young. You need young coaches in the NFL today rather than recycled guys like Tice, Haslett, etc. Jerry could do a lot worse than hire Ferentz if he's still available in two years.

You guys are getting a little crazy with the coaches your talking about. Why would one of the top coaches in the college game leave to be an assistant?? Please atleast make realistic options...

He might be bought into an NFL job with 5 mil per year and a head coaching title but he isn't leaving Iowa where he is set to be the next Hayden Fry to get screamed at by a head coach.
