I posted this in another thread.. figured it needed it’s on thread. (Recently deleted previous post)

I’ve seen many people say “Who they want..”, but because I don’t follow Oklahoma football and don’t know much about Lincoln Riley..

Im curious why some have said they don’t want Riley. Could you please elaborate why?

From what I’ve read, he has a great overall coaching record..albeit a short one. In that short time, he coached 2 Heisman trophy winners in Mayfield and Murray. And put together a pretty nice offensive resume along the way. So, I’m not advocating for him as much as I don’t know what’s not to like?

Just FYI.. from what I’ve also read, it seems likely he could very well be the Cowboys next HC based on his connection and familiarity with the Jones’s. Some may not know he became pretty close with the Jones while recruiting JJ’s grandson QB John Jones before he ended up committing to the Jones Alma Mater, Arkansas.

If Dallas is going to pull someone from the college ranks.. Please tell me why Lincoln Riley wouldn’t be a good Candidate?

This team needs an experienced person who can change team culture and who can put big money pro players in their place. Needs to have the players respect and the HC should have buy in from Jerry that he will take the back seat so there is a clear line of power

Riley is too green
He only has an offensive back ground
He has a really bad post season record losing all 3 playoff games

I’m not a fan

People don’t want him because he is a college coach and there is the belief out there that college coaches can’t make it in the NFL.

I want Riley here

There's evidence that college coaches without having NFL experience don't do well. You have to go all the way back to Jimmy Johnson to find one who did.

Riley is not at the top of my list. However, Meyer and Roman are.

But if Riley was our guy and we do hire him, I’ll be fine with it and cheer my butt off for the guy to be successful. He should be head and shoulders better than JG.

Now to object to your stance that Lincoln has a poor post season record. Every game in college is a playoff game. And you have to win with some style. He’s won his Big 12 Championship games which is essentially a playoff game that gets you into BCS Playoffs. His failures in the “Playoffs” is due to the dominance of the SEC teams and Clemson.

Again. I wouldn’t be unhappy if the Jones’s get him, but he’s no longer at the top of my list.

I personally like the idea. This team needs a refresher and to be energized. Not the same old coach who's good for a year maybe 2 then gets dull. They need a Sean Mcvay type coach who can get with the changing times of the way the nfl is headed. College like offenses who can adjust on the go and get creative game to game, quarter to quarter

I agree in general ab College coaches being successful.. but I don’t know if I agree with your last statement.. off the top of my head.. Pete Carroll and Jim Harbaugh come to mind

Riley has done nothing at Oklahoma that Stoops didn't. I don't get the hype he has.

it’s true.

i think it is because a lot of people are still on the mcvay thing and also because he is young and charismatic. he also gets a lot of attention from the media so people hear about him a lot and get influenced by that!

of course if Riley is hired I would support him and hope like heck that he is successful

I think the likelihood he leads us to a SB are low

I’ve read on here Riley doesn’t have a good defense, he’s all offense...

he is a college coach and frankly I am not very impressed with his team or offense. he runs a spread offense, which most colleges do and floods the passing lanes with WRs against lesser DBs. most colleges do this and it comes down to recruiting and talent on the team. in the NFL his offense won't be effective.

plus he is a college coach to NFL and there is no matter how you cut it, a learning curve. so if you are ready to throw away the next couple of years then by all means hire him and lets experiment. if you feel this team is ready to make the leap and compete in playoffs, then a college coach can't do it....the last one who did it was Switzer and his coaching staff was all from Johnson era and NFL coaches....Johnson did it, but its rare and he came at a rebuilding time. there are more, many more failed college to NFL headcoaches than there are successful ones....and before you mention carroll, keep in mind carroll was an NFL headcoach and then went to college and then came back.

helluva coach.
would be thrilled to get him here.
the choice of DC to pair with Riley would be very important...Steve Wilks would be interesting....or fmr Cowboys DB Ray Horton.
but having a young HC...with a very bright football mind...would be an excellent hire.
