I like the idea of keeping only 2 QBs. Not sure you're keeping the right one.

I don't see a useful role for Weber. He's a do-it-all 3-down back but he's still a significant downgrade to Zeke. Pollard provides a nice change-of-pace and they believe he can run between the tackles. I think they'll keep Olawale, who is just an oversized halfback, and go with 3 and maybe go long at DL.

Interesting that you can't find room for Wilson in the wide receiver room.

Wise faces an uphill battle to supplant Ross, as you suggest, but it's possible.

- This kind of matches our initial 53 from 2018 in terms of positional breakdown although we only carried 3 RBs to start 2018 and 7 LBs. But we don't really have 7 LBs on the roster right now and I can't see Pollard being the backup TB solely. So I think they'll carry 4 RBs.

- Also interesting is that I had no place to put the King of Pop and his dad on the 53. But I could either Jackson making a play for a roster spot, specifically Joe Jackson as I think we got a player that had a higher grade on him. Who does he replace though? Charlton? Armstrong?

- This is probably the deepest team we have had in awhile. I still think we have issues at S and Hill (or Wise) has to be a hit at the 3T. Plus TE still looks blah to me and WR could be an issue if Cobb can't find a bit of his old self, but overall, no glaring holes other than S IMO.

May be eventually but Austin still has elite speed. Fastest receiver in that receiving core. Nobody can run the jet sweep better than him.

Except that (1) he's barely done it with much success in his career, (2) Pollard was massively productive in the passing game in college, and (3) the jet sweep may not be a Kellen Moore obsession like it was Linehan's.

I was joking about the jet sweep. Until proven otherwise I believe this is still Garrett's offense until I hear they have a new playbook.

And I think Pollard at some point in his career will get more snaps....but in this rookie season? I still expect to see Tavon Austin in that rb/receiver role until I see otherwise.

Pretty good list. One area that I could see some churn is the last 2 LB spots. Specifically M-L could be easily replaced if an undrafted guy shows a penchant for Teams.

I could see all of this but as I said, I followed the 2018 initial 53 roster breakdown by position as best I could.

- The initial roster had 9 OL. Hence why I added Sua. Plus Williams is likely going to OT anyway, per the reports, so 5 interior OL isn't actually all that much.

- We carried 5 safeties initially in 2018 so that's why Frazier was on the list. I am not a big believer in Wilson at this point. I think he's a stash candidate on the PS.

- We carried only 4 CBs, which is why Jackson or Westry (I doubt he has a real chance, he's a real project and PS type IMO) were not added. I think the fact Woods can play some slot CB is why they only carried 4 CBs.

- As for QB, they are both JAGs so it really didn't matter to me who made it. I thought about just putting "QB2" in the spot because neither really moves the needle.

The return of Jason Witten and the addition of Randall Cobb will give Dak Prescott more comfort than he had last season. And new weapon Tony Pollard may add some unexpected sizzle to the offense. Another year of development with Dak and both Cooper and Gallup will improve the passing statistics for Prescott in his 4th year.

I think Mike White jumps Cooper Rush on the depth chart, and the Cowboys keep only two guys. The two holdovers from last year at RB, and the two draft picks all make the team. Rico gets cut. The Cowboys get big turnover at WR. Hurns and/or could get traded or released. One of the speed demons, either Guyton or Jon'Vea Johnson makes the team, and the former top 40 Jets draft pick bust Devin Smith makes a come back, a la Marc Colombo in 2006. The Cowboys go heavy at Offensive Line.

Rookie draft picks S Donovan Wilson and DE Jalen Jelks both fail to make the team. Wilson gets signed to the Practice Squad, but Jelks decides to find another team to sign with after he gets cut. Kavon Frazier surprises some by making the team over Wilson, but his contributions on Special Teams are the deciding factor, and Wilson gets a year to develop on the PS. Gregory applies for Reinstatement in July, but doesn't get reinstated before the season starts.

Kerry Hyder is a place keeper on the roster until Gregory is reinstated. It doesn't matter anyway, because Crawford will kick outside to cover the RDE spot as the primary backup to Robert Quinn when he's not starting at DT. Taco Charlton is traded, and the Cowboys choose to keep the cheaper Joe Jackson as the primary backup to Lawrence. Crawford can fill in at both DE spots. After Gregory is reinstated, and Hill starts getting more snaps at DT, Crawford jumps out to LDE to spell Lawrence when he needs a rest.

Covington beats out Woods at DT, but they are in a regular rotation, so Woods remains a vital member of the team. Meanwhile, Collins gets injured yet again, and gets jumped on the depth chart by rookie Hill, who by the end of the season, is getting the most snaps of any DT.

Iloka, Woods and Heath have a 3-man rotation at Safety, with Iloka coming off the field for pass defense, and Heath off the field on obvious running plays. Woods is among the snap count leaders on the team.

Surprisingly, 3 rookie free agents make the team. Luke Gifford, a team captain in College, displaces Justin March-Lillard as the 6th LB on the squad, and Chris Covington bounces back from a injury plagued rookie year to make the team.

Jourdan Lewis, who is too slow to play the slot, and too short to fit Richard's scheme on the outside, is traded away to another team, while Rookies Jackson and Westry round out the secondary depth.

Remove Gathers add WR Wilson- Hurns may be put on ir designated to return if he's not ready.
