Why not use a 2nd round pick for trade?

For some reason it seems that we don't all that we want in our second round picks. I'm not sure why over the last few seasons, but it's concerning. Now, so far, Sam Williams may be the exception. It remains to be seen, but I like the progression!

With that said, how would you feel if we traded a second to a team that had a GOOD WR, worthy of trading for? I'd hate to see us get suckered into using another first round pick! Please give your thoughts.......

The Cowboys just don't do trades like this. They value their draft picks too much. Personally, I would trade picks for proven players. I like knowing what I'm getting instead of drafting a maybe/maybe not guy.

The Cowboys would trade Micah Parsons for two 1st round picks, but they would never trade two 1st round picks for Micah Parsons.

Trevon Diggs and Randy Gregory are two that come to mind.

I would be all about trading a second round pick for a proven player.

And the biggest reason would be it removes Jerry's ability to waste that pic on an injured player. Or one with some other type of problem that we can't fix

Sure, have no issue using a 2nd rd but all depends on the player you are looking to get. Trades are always 2 way streets.

No. If we get a good player then we have to pay him big money. I would rather go with how we are doing it now and use the pick and pay rookie wages.. Hope we get good picks this year.

It does seem a strange situation in the last 10 years or so that we are good at drafting in round 1 (with a couple of exceptions) whereas we are bad at drafting in round 2 (with a couple of exceptions).

I'd be up for trading for a player of value with a round 2 pick given our track record.

I’m all for improving our roster NOW. And I’m not opposed to trading any draft pick if we get value in return. And obviously if I’m trading a day or two pick it needs to be for a player that’s not a one year rental. That being said, I feel we do need to upgrade the WR position.

Vet or someone on a rookie deal? Long term.player? Name some names....I don't like trading just to say we made a trade.

I don't think the problem is our wrs.

Agreed. We are Projected compensatory picks: One in Round 4; two in Round 6. So we even out with the Hankins trade.

I would move the 2nd and you have flex to get back into the second.

Because we need another injured LB or questionable TE. Those picks are reserved for JJ to make. Maybe another dumb DB.

I just prefer we keep all of our picks for the rare chance we might need a quarterback.

Cowboys need to do all they can to make a move now that makes them better. This is the year to push all your chips in. The conference is terrible.

If you can somehow get an impact player without getting totally fleeced I would pull the trigger.

They like the cheap rookie contracts and the value for 4 years, probably they still bring a WR but it will be for much less than a second.

I have no problem with trading a second round pick if we get good value in the player we’re trading for. The problem is what it will cost us as far as the salary cap goes. You’re trading a rookie contract in the next draft for what could be a sizable contract in the player obtained.

Question is who are you trading for? If it makes sense to make a deal i'm all for it. Problem is this idea that the Cowboys don't get value out of their 2nd rounds picks just isnt true though. Our last three were Williams, Joesph, and Diggs. I dont think anyone would want a redo for at least 2 of those 3.

Aside from that Hill has developed into a decent rotational guy. Not what you want out a 2nd rounder, but not a complete bust. Same with Connor Williams. Awuzie has turned into one of the better CBs in the NFL since leaving Dallas. Randy Gregory was a bust, but no question the talent was there. DLaw was well worth a 2nd.

Over the last decade, 2nd round drafting has actually been pretty good. The bigger problem for the Cowboys has been getting the most out of some of those guys.

Now any team trading a wr to the Cowboys is going to assume that 2nd round pick probably falls in the later part of the round which I think really matters. 2nd rounders in the top half of the round gives you a chance to get a guy who you had a first round grade on who slid. You get outside the top 50 picks and that starts to change. It's likely why the 9ers had to give up a 2nd + a 3rd, 4th, and 5th for CMC. If you want a difference maker it kind of seems like the bar has been set there, unless you want to go with the 1st or you're also taking on a bad contract or something like that.

Stephen Jones would rather use a 2nd on broken guys who cant play, end up in jail, or too broken to make any other team than actually aquire a guy who could legit start for a team that wants to contend for a SB.
