Why not use a 2nd round pick for trade?

They like the cheap rookie contracts and the value for 4 years, probably they still bring a WR but it will be for much less than a second.

My guess is the WR they'll bring in is already there - James Washington. I'd be very surprised to see a trade for a guy with big contract.

Guys like Cooks and DJ Moore have cap hits in excess of $25 million in 2023.

For some reason it seems that we don't all that we want in our second round picks. I'm not sure why over the last few seasons, but it's concerning. Now, so far, Sam Williams may be the exception. It remains to be seen, but I like the progression!

With that said, how would you feel if we traded a second to a team that had a GOOD WR, worthy of trading for? I'd hate to see us get suckered into using another first round pick! Please give your thoughts.......

Dont need one.

The Cowboys just don't do trades like this. They value their draft picks too much. Personally, I would trade picks for proven players. I like knowing what I'm getting instead of drafting a maybe/maybe not guy.

The Cowboys would trade Micah Parsons for two 1st round picks, but they would never trade two 1st round picks for Micah Parsons.

Unwarranted bashing of the Cowboys that your are completely wrong about. You hate this team so much you are now criticizing what we do with our draft picks (best drafting team in entire league by far). Move on bro or get help.

Question is who are you trading for? If it makes sense to make a deal i'm all for it. Problem is this idea that the Cowboys don't get value out of their 2nd rounds picks just isnt true though. Our last three were Williams, Joesph, and Diggs. I dont think anyone would want a redo for at least 2 of those 3.

Aside from that Hill has developed into a decent rotational guy. Not what you want out a 2nd rounder, but not a complete bust. Same with Connor Williams. Awuzie has turned into one of the better CBs in the NFL since leaving Dallas. Randy Gregory was a bust, but no question the talent was there. DLaw was well worth a 2nd.

Over the last decade, 2nd round drafting has actually been pretty good. The bigger problem for the Cowboys has been getting the most out of some of those guys.

Now any team trading a wr to the Cowboys is going to assume that 2nd round pick probably falls in the later part of the round which I think really matters. 2nd rounders in the top half of the round gives you a chance to get a guy who you had a first round grade on who slid. You get outside the top 50 picks and that starts to change. It's likely why the 9ers had to give up a 2nd + a 3rd, 4th, and 5th for CMC. If you want a difference maker it kind of seems like the bar has been set there, unless you want to go with the 1st or you're also taking on a bad contract or something like that.
Great post

My perspective is high draft picks are too valuable. This draft the good guards seem in the second round. Their focused on the run game so I’d prefer a Lg

Not bad idea.....but i would prefer to rather use our 2nd rounder to move up in the first round and get a real blue chipper, top 10 ...that is of course if we have an eye on someone already. Read that in the last 20 years, the Cowboys have had just five 2nd round picks sign second contracts. 2ND ROUND......ludicrous. Trysten, CWilliams, Awuzie, Jaylon, RGregory, Bruce Carter, Martellus Bennett, Kevin Burnett, Jacob Rodgers, Julius Jones, Quincy Carter, etc....you get the idea. Not been a very good round or something to be proud of for Jerry. Maybe with Will McClay and DQ more involved it might turn around. And then maybe not, if Jerry continues to believe he is the smartest guy in the room.

Jerry will only trade # 1s for wideouts.
Done it 3 times.

When has the Cowboys ever traded a player for two first rounders? Especially a player of Micah’s talent.

Sam Williams has looked pretty good so far and he was our second round pick this past April. It wouldn’t be wise to fork over a second round pick at mid season, unless we can acquire a really good player who’s disgruntled with their current team. Even then we would have to pay them and the Joneses don’t appear to want to pay big money for a veteran player. I would only give up a second round pick for a real good WR and I don’t see the Joneses doing that because they don’t want look like even bigger idiots giving away Amari Cooper for a 5th round pick. They didn’t even want to pay Cedric Wilson. They seemed to be convinced that CeeDee would step up and he hasn’t. Jerry doesn’t like to look wrong. Just like in 2018 he miscalculated his receiving group.

Who said they have?
You said they are more likely to trade Parsons for two first round picks. What evidence do you have to say that. Over the last 25 years they have traded multiple 1st round picks for wideouts. They have not traded a player for a first round pick since Walker.

I stand by what I said.

It is my "Dak Prescott would've threw for 6,000 yards and 60 TDs if he didn't get injured in 2020".

Agreed, but this team has something special going on. Always planning for the future is not a good practice in todays NFL. There’s never a guarantee from year to year. I’m all for selling part of the future for a playmaker on offense right now. Personally, I’d offer OBJ a package he can’t turn down. He would open things up for everyone.

I don't think this year is anymore special than 2014, 2016, or even last year and they did nothing those years.

I'd be shocked if they added an impact player.

Only if it’s for a player we can resign.

A high draft picks give you a quality player *at a cheap price*.
