Why not use a 2nd round pick for trade?

For some reason it seems that we don't all that we want in our second round picks. I'm not sure why over the last few seasons, but it's concerning. Now, so far, Sam Williams may be the exception. It remains to be seen, but I like the progression!


With that said, how would you feel if we traded a second to a team that had a GOOD WR, worthy of trading for? I'd hate to see us get suckered into using another first round pick! Please give your thoughts.......

Problem with these trades is the Cowboys usually have to overpay to get a player they want. Teams also don't usually trade away good players unless they have a stable of them and would like to accumulate some draft picks. The Cowboys have plenty of good players, they really need impact players like DJ Moore or that LB from Chicago and they would cost at least a 1st.

We're better off trying to find that gem in the 2nd round, like Diggs and maybe Williams, than what you'll get using your 2nd in a trade. You'd probably not even think the players offered are worth the 2nd pick.

The Cowboys just don't do trades like this. They value their draft picks too much. Personally, I would trade picks for proven players. I like knowing what I'm getting instead of drafting a maybe/maybe not guy.

The Cowboys would trade Micah Parsons for two 1st round picks, but they would never trade two 1st round picks for Micah Parsons.

This is false. The Cowboys traded two 1st round picks for Joey freakin Galloway.
Parsons is 100x the player Galloway was.

I would be all about trading a second round pick for a proven player.

And the biggest reason would be it removes Jerry's ability to waste that pic on an injured player. Or one with some other type of problem that we can't fix

If it's a proven player they most likely want a big contract so the whole premise is bad. Dallas wants their picks because they get to pay cheap for 4 years. If you give away the pick, you get a player who will demand lots of money.

They have outstanding players in Williams and Diggs that were taken in the 2nd round. Their overall result in building this roster is outstanding and they are set up to be very good in the future as well. They are ranked 4th in the power rankings currently and are well stocked with draft capital.
