Why not WR Elijah Moore?

Just me, but if you were willing to use the 12th overall on the position, why not use a 2026 2nd to find a top young one on another team's roster. I guess I'm saying if you felt that strongly about upgrading the position, don't let the draft stop you.
I wouldnt hesitate to do that....depends on the player and their contract status, but I would hope the Cowboys would be open minded there.

I like Moore, and he has talent, but he is really a slot WR. Being that Lamb does his best work out of the slot, and needs to be moved around, I don't know that Moore is a great fit for the offense. But, he would certainly be better than a lot of the receivers currently on the roster.

Out of the available FAs, DJ Chark is the one guy who brings pretty good speed and the size to be an outside WR. There have been health concerns, but beggars can't be choosers at this point. I'd target him to compete for the #2 WR position.

They obviously think he can be. I’m not a fan of betting on a long shot at such a critical position myself. I would have gotten a WR in 1st. But I do like the player they took. I get the thinking even though I wouldn’t have went guard
Cowboys think Mingo can be that player.

I know I'm a minority but I would strongly consider Pickens for 2 years ( final contract year and one tag year). I'm not sure some fans realize how good he is ..........
***he's one the final year of his rookie contract $4M
*** The current franchise tag for WRs is $21.8M
*** That's $26M over two years, meaning we can have him at an average $13M over the next 2 years

I’m not expecting to win this year, so my point is very much influenced by that…

Not as if Moore would be an awful move, but I think they need to get a good long and fair look at Tolbert and Mingo. They’ve got a third and fourth tied up in them….which is not a reason to stick with them too long if they prove to suck, but Mingo hasn’t even played with Dak yet. Tolbert is in his walk year, and the jury is still way out on if you let him go or not. Are either a legit 2? More than likely not but I think they need to find out.
I’m 90% certain that I’d let Tolbert walk after this year. Thus far he’s proven to be inconsistent. Flashes and some good games followed by a several- week disappearing act.

Plus there’s a decent shot next years draft leans toward skill players, and while I continually moan over the trenches, I won’t be complaining if they take a dynamic type WR top ten next draft….something that I didn’t see available in this past draft.
I don’t think signing Moore would prevent that next year.

The math is interesting and doesn’t look too bad overall.

The question is that do you want to risk the franchise tag game with a guy known to have the attitude that Pickens does?

Secondly, what round pick would it take to get him?

Right off the bat, you’re turning a 4-year draft pick contract into a 2-year deal.

I'm with you on this, Hawkeye0202. How he would respond to not receiving an extension would be a concern. But, from a financial standpoint this is the best case scenario.

What would be the draft capital used to land him? Will the Steelers up the asking price now that the draft is done? Or, will the Steelers take him off of the market if they land Rodgers?

I'd be a little hesitant, but you're not wrong in how good he is. His diva status outshines his abilities on field, but if this guy ever get his head on straight hes a legitimate WR1.

They targeted Tet McMillan and he would have been the pick except he went at #8

The other receivers in the first round:

Egbuka went at 19
PFF Grade: Average
81% of snaps in the slot

Golden at 23
PFF Grade: Average
76% of snaps wide

So, maybe Golden would have been a fit, but he would have to have gone 10 picks earlier to the Cowboys. No idea how they had him rated.

Jameson Williams is probably a better option. Still has two years of control left

Hell, I'd take him also......just pull the trigger on a young A-1 WR and don't look back
Im guessing Williams costs you a #2, which Im fine with. If I was ok with Golden at 12, I should have no problems with a #2 for Williams. Williams is basically who you hope Golden becomes

Because the media feels we needed to draft or trade for a Wr, does not make it true. They’re always telling fans what teams need but in reality they don’t know jack.
We have enough WRs on the roster one of them will show up as the 2, 3, 4, 5 receivers.
The coaches have to give them a legitimate opportunity to show who will be who

No cap wiggle room on the tag. Have to be able to afford the hit in that circumstance.
