I don't think Jerry has the smarts to be able to uncover a young rising star.

And even if he did, I don't think he'd trust a young rising HC enough to stand back and let the guy do his job.

And personnel? Forget about it. JJ wouldn't let some young hotshot start calling the shots on draft picks and FA's, and probably not even allow him to pick his entire staff.

It'll take a big name coach that JJ respects for him to hand over the reigns. It's too bad because some of these young upcoming candidates could do the job if given a chance and not interferred with.

It would be an "Eric Mangini" situation.

Mickey had a funny quote about waiting for Parcells:

" ... as we sit here these days anxiously awaiting for the papal smoke to waft out of the head coach's office at The Ranch signally a yea or a nay on Bill Parcells' coaching future with the Cowboys." :D

I guess we have no choice but to wait, but I would rather have a coach that was certain and excited to come back.

Like, ... "Daggone right I'm coming back, we have this this and this, and we're going to do that that and that, ... and we're getting started right away. We're excited about our opportunities next season."

Not, "woe is me, what should I do, what should I do."

Because we are a .500 team and 0-2 in the playoffs.

Yes.

yep....a .500 record...no division titles, no playoff wins...teams that get worse every yr during the season...horrendous defense despite vastly upgraded talent...still mediocre OL play

If Parcells didnt have his last name and his record, I am certain he would have been fired already.

I would love to see Bill Parcells do what Gibbs did (even though it isnt working to well for him) and bring in Coordinators (they dont have to be high priced guys or big name guys) and become more of a motivator, overseer of the team and handle personell decisions.

Remember folks, If Parcells walks you lose the ability to control Jerry's urges to mettle 100%, his drafting ability and a strong personality to handle somone like Terrell Owens.

You bring a young coach in here and Owens would eat his lunch.

You SHOULD ACT LIKE A MAN!!!! Oh, sorry, I slipped into the Godfather movie.

Or even better, how about a coach that they don't even ASK the question. Because it's just assumed he's coming back.

I am so tired of this routine.

And don't think for one second that he doesn't LOVE this stuff. "The Coach" is just like "The Player" in some ways.

Congratulations! You are absolutely right. If he doesn't already know and have enthusiasm about it, he's the wrong man for the job. If he had what it takes to be successful, he might not know how he was going to do it but he would know he would be determined enough to find a way to do it, not sit around and mope about whether he could do it or not. That is a strong indicator that he is not right for the job.

His morbid depression is, in my opinion, the very reason why this team has neither spirit nor enthusiasm - and why they're not winning in crunch time and cannot rise to the occasion and there's no indication that things are going to change.

Bad as he is, he's unfortunately 1000 times better than Jones at his best.

Guns are loud, knives hurt.
Gas stinks, nooses give.
Damn, might as well live.

Gotta have a sense of humor about it, otherwise life sucks but it's still better than being dead.

On the nosey.

How on earth can a team be excited, when their coach isn't?

It's like it has become a sickness with Parcells. He stands on the sidelines, with NONE of the passion he used to have, looking miserable, yet he can't let go.

Even his ex players told him this season that they didn't recognize him.

cowher won the SB once in 15 seasons I personally think he would be a downgrade from parcells. Oh and you didn't see the million other threads about bill sucking?

what people forget is until the 3rd week of that 2005 season for the steelers, everybody in pittsburgh and the media and everywhere else called cowher the most overrated coach in quite some time. he won that yr and now he's something great.

We continue to take the "worst case scenario made good" and encourage ourselves with it.

When Parcells called the QB position a bus driver position - We had people talking about Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson

When someone points out that Parcells has accomplished mediocrity and has to search his inner self every single stinking year to know whether he wants to coach again, and how we are tired of it, then we have to find a guy who was doubted but won.

How about this? How about a team that had the sense in 1989 to take a franchise QB, that team went on to win 3 SB's with him at the helm.

How about a team that brought in a young, unproven, but cocky and confident College coach? That team went on to win 2 SB's with him at the helm, and a 3rd because of the talent that he accumulated when he was here.

Does it always work out that way? Of course not. But I would argue it works out more than the obscure examples that we always want to throw out to encourage ourselves because we choose to take the road less traveled.

Very few teams succeed with tired old coaches. They just don't.
