BS. Montana had 4 rings with basically two separate teams. Peyton has all too often come up short in the playoffs. and THAT is where true greatness is decided.

Substitute Dan Marino in that article for Manning. Manning had better WRs, yet Marino lit up the entire stadium.

Marino didn't win any championships, but it wasn't because he wasn't good enough to do it. He he never had the best team. One man can't do everything.

Please. In order to be the greatest QB of all time you need to have more than Super Bowl ring, not choke everytime you are the number 1 seed in the playoffs and not throw a pick six in the biggest game of your life. Manning is a great regular season QB but I will take Elway, Montana, Unitas, and other QB's who came through in big moments over him.

I struggle with these debates because I beleive that many of these players have done incredible things in their careers. I think Montana isn often underrated in these conversations, but I would have to say that Manning's preparation, skill set, his atttention to detail, and the fact that he makes all of his receivers around him better players , makes me look at him and consider him the best I've seen to this date. There will always be debate, but I beleive he does belong up there with the league's elite.

Manning certainly is worthy of consideratiion as the best of all time. It's hard to argue against him. But cases can be made for Montana, Elway and maybe a few others. Maybe I'm biased, but I would at least put Staubach in the conversation. I think he was the driving force behind his teams more than any of the others.

I love Peyton. I think he's great, and probably technically speaking the best pure QB to ever play.

However, for my money, Joe Montana is still the king. When it came to the biggest moments, the pressure situations (Playoffs and especially the Superbowl) Joe Montana was simply the best player on the field. He was amazing in most of those situations.

he was perfect in the Superbowl too. Not just with a 4-0 record but he also had a perfect TD to INT ratio. 11 TDs to 0 interceptions. He raised his game, even more, when it mattered most. That's why he's #1 in my book.

Me, I'd take Marino or Elway. Maybe even Unitas. But Peyton being in the mix is certainly legit. Can't argue that he shouldn't be considered. I tend to favor older QBs, because they did their stuff when the rules were not nearly so passing-friendly.

Peyton's amazing for this era, because he essentially is calling all the plays. I remember the OC Moore saying something to the effect of, 'I make suggestions.'

Peyton is the best I've seen in a long, long time. So darn smart.

Heck that team can lose a bunch of starters and still win. I guess that's what good smart coaching and preparation will get you.

Duh! Wrs go though there like a turn style and he makes them all look like stars. His line is often overated, he just always gets the ball out in under 3 seconds. He will throw to ANYONE. Hes the only guy I know that you could put on a team or take off a team and it could mean a 10 game swing.

The game has evolved so much since 1970. 1978 is when they first started to seriously strengthen the rules so that DBs were no longer allowed to mug the receivers. The results were immediate but they continued to evolve over the next 10 years. Montana came in at the perfect time; then Marino. For those of you saying Manning go ahead and compare his playoff and SB stats to Montana. And you might remember that Montana won 2 SBs before Jerry Rice showed up.

I can't stand when people do this. You know good and well Dilfer and Manning aren't on the level of Marino and neither of those two were the reasons or specifically main reasons why their teams won the Super Bowl. Dilfer and Eli had great support(specifically defensive support around them) to greatly assist them in winning Super Bowls. Marino didn't have this support but we all know what kind of QB he was. Montana was a 3 time Super Bowl MVP and was a large reason for winning 4 Super Bowls. So NO the line of though isn't that Eli is better than Marino, the line of thought is both Montana and Peyton are great QB's but Montana performed great in the ultimate games where Peyton has not.
