the ball when Minn was suppose to be short in secondary

I mean Austin should have been targeted at least twice going deep in each quater

The problem with throwing deep to your receivers, is that takes time, that the OL is not consistently giving Romo. You look at film from the Minn game last year, and the Titans game last week, and it's hard to have confidence in that line.

Let's say they commit to throwing it deep to Austin twice a quarter. Yeah, it worked the time they tried it, but for the most part the line was getting a lot of pressure on Romo. You keep going with 7 step drops to go deep, eventually that line gets there and Romo is toast.

Face it. Until we get a better OL, we're just not going deep that much.

By the way, how many times did Favre go deep today?

Pretty sure Favre has never gone deep judging by the comments I've read about ol numero 4"

I agree. For whatever reason they don't trust Romo to buy this line time to extend a play with his feet. I Just don't get it. We didn't test those corners once. Its funny though. Garrett can't win. He runs too much its a problem. He throws too much its a problem. He throws it about equal and he should be doing one more than the other.

This team will go as far as it can with the pass. Live and die by the pass.

yea but even that one throw was not deep - does not have to be seven step drop

Romo looked like Stephen McGee in the preseason out there today. How many times did we run the swing pass to Felix about 8 yards behind the line of scrimmage?

yea but with no blockers ? omg

We've basically been a vertical throwing team for the past several years. That requires an Oline that gives your QB and receivers time. Knowing that, either our offensive coaching staff greatly overestimated the ability of our current OL, or Jerry just didn't/couldn't go out and spend any money this offseason to improve it. We obviously can't draft OL to save our lives. I know signing free agents is expensive, but it appears to be the only way we can put together a decent line. Either way, HUGE mistakes were made in the offseason in regards to our OL, especially considering how much Jerry wanted to play in this year's Super Bowl in Dallas.

Because Garrett is a moron.

We didn't test out Minny once deep the entire game. Everything was short passes even though they stacked the line.

I bet that Garrett didn't even care that the Minny DBs were depleted. Why then did he not try and test it? Why did we continuously run on 1st down even though it wasn't working? Why was Garrett so predictable?

I'm so disappointed with Garrett. Minny's strength in their defense was stopping the run. Yet we continued to try and run the ball even though it wasn't working.

Secondly, I don't buy for a fact that Romo had too much pressure and didn't have time to throw deep. Farve had much more pressure then him. Yet they still threw to their playmakers.

This is the fault of Garrett. He just does not know how to call a good game to use the talent he's got.

WE should have went deep and used our receivers. There are other ways of getting them the ball.

No kidding. And those seemed like called plays, not just outlet passes.

And by my count it happened about 85 times.

No idea why. Maybe Garrett was terrified of their pass rush based off last year.

yup in this game we should have been testing their CB's

With all the time our offensive line would provide Romo to throw downfield?

Problem is that they didn't really pressure us as much as I thought. Even Favre had more pressure than us. Yet they kept going to their playmakers. What strikes me is that we were so predictable in everything. We never changed up a play and stuck with this format:

1st down -run Felix Jones up the middle
2nd down - Swing pass to felix
3rd down - give the ball to barber for the 1st

Not until the 4th quarter did we deviate from that game plan.

I would have liked to see the offense take a few more shots downfield, but I doubt they were going to be able to make a living doing that today. Yeah, Minnesota's secondary is in bad shape, and we definitely had a mismatch we should have exploited more often, but Romo wasn't going to be able to sit back and pick their defense apart all day.

it did not have to be downfield - even 10 to 15 yards
