Why should we do right by Romo?

Now some of you may have already replied but, for those of you with any attention span at all -- I am the biggest Romo booster on these boards -- at least in my very humble opinion (at least a pity laugh? Know I'm walking into a slaughter, so might as well do it with humor).

A few years ago I posted that Romo would be NFL MVP in a thread, not the best argument, had a few hundred replies and I got trolled endlessly... even around week 9/10 this year I was still posting that Romo should be our QB. Maybe a part of me still feels that way because so many guys have flashed greatness and fallen apart... Dak can still regress, anyone who doubts that, look at RG3. Think he is a great example, but there are an endless amount of others...but, why should we do right by Tony?

If we can't get a top-round pick, why should we do right by Romo? Sure it is the morally proper & popular move, but it doesn't really seem like the right move for business. Remember the Bengals got 2 first rounds when they held out of letting Palmer out of his contract, and Palmer wasn't much younger... Romo is in a completely different league.. if we have teams handing away 2nd round picks for people to take their guys (really just for cap space, still ridiculous), with one of the potential reasons being to land Romo, screw them, they're paying a first, nothing less...

Sorry, Tony - don't like making $25m to have everyone talk about how you could be leading some team to the SB for the next 6/7 months while riding the bench until a team pays us the proper price at a critical moment, then retire and I'll see you on Fox next to Aikman on Sunday's, maybe I'm still just being a fan boy.

Emotions shouldn't be in business decisions.

I hope this gets resolved quick so we can move on.

would you pay a 1st for romo right now? Im a big fan too.. but hes old and injury prone.. its not a guarantee he'd make it a full year... so a 1st rounder?

They shouldn't.

Why so jaded fellow. Romo was a valued Cowboy for 14 years and a savior of the franchise
for 10 years. He suffered with bad teams, bad coaching and bad Cowboys management.
How about cutting him some slack.

We either put business first or we don't. It can be done with class, and honestly he'll likely end up in a much better situation. Imagine if Brady went down? Romo is there for the taking? He could end up in the perfect situation to win a Lombardi.

If clearing 10m of cap room costs a 2nd, heck yeah I do.

It is all about where the market is at. The market just shot up. I'm going long time (theta for any finance nerds) in this situation.

Trying to make a deal.

Denver, Houston, JVille, KC, Cleveland....don't care who.

Ready to just get it over.
If people were bidding firsts he would be gone by now.

His market value can shoot up so much higher than what salvage value we're going to end up taking at this rate if we holdout.

Saviors actually lead teams to championships. All Romo did was put up big stats and then eventually blow it. He doesn't have any skins on the wall to be considered a savior of to be cut any slack. I like Romo a lot. He's a class act all the way and had some great moments but he didn't do anything worthy of some special treatment. It's professional sports. If a guy has value, you explore it and get all you can. Why should they do right by Romo? How about they do right by the other 63 guys who will be Cowboys this year and try and get as much talent in the door as possible. Is that really such a novel idea?

Why do we have to look at RGIII? I look at Dak. He has composure, is a leader, a great work ethic, and can read defenses (which should be even better now in year 2). Does that apply to RGIII?

You do right by players because it's the right thing to do.

That's how you get your core players to resign with you and not test the market because they trust Jerry when he tells them that they won't be traded.

Doing right by players leads to your left tackle, one of the most expensive positions in the league, signing an all time home town discount contract. It's also how you get Terence Williams to sign a contract half what a lot of people projected for him.

Loyalty goes both ways, you don't hold players hostage in the NFL. It literally doesn't happen. If you can't find a trading partner it is because Romo has limited value so you release him.

Some fans are under the impression he is worth a boat load of picks, he's not. He's not a whole lot more valuable than Jay Cutler at this point until he proves he can last two games in a row without an injury.

His value really can't go down. There is no other QB out there unless you are desperate for someone like Cutler. No QB in this draft will come in and do the job like Romo can.

If Jerry were trying to do right by Romo, he would have released him by now. Waiting this long at least shows us that Jerry and FO are putting our needs first. It may end ugly with a release, but now I have a modicum of faith that we are trying to do the right thing for the Boys.
