Why So Much Zone D? What Happened To Man Coverage?

I'm not sure, if they feel Adam Jones is still a bit rusty and with a gimpy Newman they may figure for now it is better to run more zone than man. We will see how we adjust as the season moves on.

Newman looked fine to me. Seem to me that Newman was out there alot.

It was Newman 1st game back what can I tell you. I have seen no explanation from others around here except for the usual emotional outburst and name calling of the staff. I do think the staff knows a bit more about the players and the situations than fans. If someone wants to give another explanation of why without all the overboard comments great thus far I have seen none.

Like I said in other threads-it's only week 2. Newman has been hurt. Pacman is still a bit rusty. Spencer has been hurt. Now they should all be good to go either this week or next.

It's not like it's week 12 or 13-give it time b/c this season is a marathon, not a 50 yard dash.

I gotta agree on this. We are playing zone till our boyz can get acclimated and what not. We are not 100% out there so we are "soft" and playing soft zone d..

I'm not crying at all say what you want and write what you want but I have seen nothing close to an explanation to the question except for the same old mindless banter that you would expect from a 5 year old.

Here is some food for thought. What if the idea of running zone is so defenders eyes could be on Westbrook, What if they wanted to make sure McFlabb did'nt take off for 30yrd scampers, What if they dont want to get that on tape and they feel like there a lock for making the playoffs and want to hold some cards, just sayin it's not always so cut and dry. I agree it's a real beating watching a bend dont break scheme but they ran man at times too and lots of cover one as well. This is two weeks in row that I think you have seen some out of the box adjustments that have produced victories, what do sports fans want, this ain't madden. its called mixing it up

Or McNabb running over your linebacker on the 5..

cough** cough***

Burnett**

but the scheme was correct # 57 was in place to make the play right? Players Play, Coaches Coach, Burrnet just got schooled by a pretty darn good QB

Never was complaining, just asking a valid question. Stop reading into things.

I'm not, I gave an explanation I did not call you out on this only commented on some of the responses I saw that seem more emotionally driven with little thought behind it.

I sorry, sound like it was directed toward me. Again, just a valid question. I trust our coaching staff and as the season gets rolling, things should smooth out.

I agree. I think our coaching staff know what they are doing and know what the situation is with their players in terms of health and understanding of their assignments. I would expect as the season moves forward we will see the Cowboys pick up the pace.

It is hard to explain how are talented D can give up so much Real Estate.

I don't know if this has been said already, i didn't read every post in this thread. But, Tnew is still recovering, Adam Jones is still trying to shake of the rust, and we have a rookie CB in Jenkins that we don't know much about.

I remember reading something about Tnew asking the coaching stuff to use more press and man coverage in the preseason, and that still might happen when every body is healthy and the coaching staff gets more familiar and comfortable with the CB's we have on the roaster.

JMHO

Edit. I should have read the entire thread, i don't think i have added anything new..............lol

I agree with the OP, and some of you need to get off your high horse that you know everything and post something stupid like a picture of Star Trek to act like you know something when if fact you are a moron.

The fact is, many of our corners are great man to man coverage corners. I'd like to see alot more man to man when Tnew gets back. Nothing drives me crazier than seeing Henry lining up 12 yards off a WR on 3rd and 6.

Newman only played 30 snaps. Wade said that both Spencer and Newman were rusty.

I hate our zone scheme.

And Q-Bert Jones is too ******** to understand how to play it. He always got by on his own physical ability and being told "See that WR? Follow him whereever he goes".

They babied him at West Virginia and they babied him in Tennessee. He's learning how to play CB for the first time and he's bad at it.

Type-O. I meant "OUR" LB. Schooled? More like punked:eek::

i'd like to see us play a little more man coverage, but i stand behind the braintrust at the ranch. I love 'em anyway!!!

If TNew comes back healthy......do u think we might do what we did when we had Deion? Leave Newman on an island and then overload the other side......When Deion was here, half the field was off limits cause no one would throw at him. If Newman is able to do this, our defense should become much improved.
