Actually, it makes perfect sense .. It lets all of the other NFL teams know a trade is being worked on and if they are interested, they had better speak up now.

Gotta love the guys that always assume BP is a dope before the facts come out. Speculation is fun but right now noone knows the story so why assume the worst? It is unusual granted to have an announcement come out the way it did.

My guess is Brainpaint is correct and Henson forced their hand by packing up, which might also explain Parcells demeanor on the subject. This situation is sorta like in baseball when a player is "designated for assignment". The team typically then tries to trade him and if they're unsuccessful and he's out of options for the minors, he's released. I honestly doubt Henson is retiring based on recent comments by him. If we get a 7th rounder that's more than I thought we'd get.

Maybe they only announced it now because Henson was or already left and knew a reporter would find out and report it anyways.

That is the only thing I can think of really.

That they were afraid, for whatever reason, that someone would leak the story.


Other than that reason I really can not think of another unless they flat out know that a trade is in the bag or that Henson asked to be let go/retire.

I would have to agree that one of these two are legit scenarios...otherwise it's not making much sense.

I remember most all of us freaking out that we released Keys without TO signed. I think TO was in the bag before Keys was released...this is a different situation, but I would think before announcing it we may have something done.

There are some on here that amaze me, they could read a soap bar label and get a conspiracy theory going in their minds............

BP never said Henson couldn't play, he was talking about Peterman, when asked because he was such a high draft pick (third), why he didnt keep him around longer, BP simply said just because he is a high draft pick I should keep him around even though he cant play, it had nothing to do with Henson at all.....

and chances are they have already traded him, he is already gone, the press somehow got a clue, so they cut them off at the pass with this almost announcement, and the reason they arent saying more is that the other club ask them not to (before they released their player), and before Henson passed their physical which he must do for the trade to go through........

jeesh some of you need to get over the soap opera complex that drives you daily......................

Why in the world do you announce that Henson won't be on your roster until he isn't on your roster? That makes zero sense, just like a lot of the other things Parcells has done with Henson don't make sense.

Because Henson quit, that's why. Now the "secret superstar" can go elsewhere and make Parcells rue the day he mishandled him!!

Well, I didn't hear the press conference but if we go by how it's laid out in Rosh's post, that comment was made before the Peterman discussion.
