Why the Cowboys new weapon KaVontae Turpin is essentially a lock to make the 53-man roster

Punt return specialist. He's small but he's quick. If you can't touch him you can't stop him. I'm hoping to see him as a streak down the field all season long. He needs to be decisive and go forward rather than dancing around going backward when the ball hits his hands.

They best have some other players returning punts during TC & PS games. Don't just hand the PR duties to Turpin.

With Gallup on PUP, and if Washington not back in time for the season. That may get him a roster spot though if no other WR steps up. Such as Houston who is having a good camp.

With Gallup and Washington out. The top WR's now are:
Lamb, Tolbert, Brown, Fehoko, Vasher, then a bunch of guys. So maybe that goes, Turpin or Houston for the last spot if they keep 6.
But don't forget about Brandon Smith as he showed a little bit in PS last year., and some on here liked Fryogle.

We've needed a guy like this to help Moore be a little more creative. Because it's almost as if Moore thinks he'll break Pollard if he uses him too much. So now we have a replacement for Pollard if he goes down. Which means Moore can use Pollard for anything he wants.

Yah right. As if now he is going to use Pollare more.

I dont see Fohenko as getting in before Vasher and Houston.

Might depend on how the receivers play in the preseason as far as Washington goes. If the receivers really look good in the preseason, the Cowboys might decide it can do without Washington and either IR him before the 53 or go with an injury settlement. If they think they will need him during the season, they'll have to place him on IR after the first 53 cut in order to be able to bring him back.

Gallup will be on PUP to start the season, so he won't count against the 53.

how many games do you have to miss to be on the pup?

I want to see how they all do in a PS game. Which still may not tell us much. But you could be right. I have missed a lot of video from TC this past week. But will catch up on what is on you tube in a few days when I get back. Not that those will tell me much either.
But hey, have to watch.

If you are on PUP or NFI at the start of the season. You miss 4 games automatic.
You have to be on PUP or NFI at the start of TC also to stay on that list.

If you have one practice, you cannot be added to PUP. It is IR for the season, or on the 53 initially then moved to short term IR.

I think that is what you are asking?

We can only hope so. But remember when DeMarco Murray's contract was up, they ran the hell out of Murray than year to see if he could hold up. I'm kind of hoping they do the same to Pollard. Let's see if he's really worth a big pay increase.

We can hope, but I think we all know its not happening. When Jerry says "Zeke HAS TO BE the focus in the run and the pass game" that says it all.

Isnt there a 3 game IR? I think they would put him on that. 4 games seems like a lot.

I think they changed that 3 games to 4 games this year.
Yes that is the short term IR. But the player must be on the initial 53 man roster. Then moved to IR for that.

So really best to keep him on PUP.
Unless they feel he will only miss 2 games, then they will activate him before the end of TC.

I say they dont put him on the IR. They can just put a guy like Houston or Vasher on the practice squad and activate him if they need to.

Turpin is a special teams player. He's too small in stature to be an offensive contributor in the NFL. He's going to get killed if they let him play on this offense. He's 5' 7" tall, 155lbs soaking wet. He's barely big enough to go on most carnival rides. lol God bless him for trying but I'm praying for this young man's safety.
He better be really fast.

They're carried 6 WRs for for the majority of the season the past few years.
- For some periods of time during seasons, they've carried 7.

1. CeeDee
2. Tolbert
3. Turpin
4. Brown
5. Houston
6. Vasher or Fehoko

PUP: Gallup
IR: Washington
