Why the pitch out to Barber on 4th and One ???

I didn't mind the play but in order for that play to work you needed Columbo to clear his side of the field and he didn't. No one would've got that on this team. Barber fought for it. I'm on the fence about Barber. I see hunger there. I see fire. But I don't see any holes so how can I knock him for not being able to block for himself?

He's overpaid but anyone who says he is useless has lost their mind. He had nowhere to go on that pitch and you cannot tell me it'd be any different with Felix running that play. The block was missed. Apparently Barber should've juked 3 guys out and got the first.

I will say that the playcalling was... iffy at times.

on the last drive, what looked like what supposed to be a WR screen to Dez was ...eh. Maybe Dez breaks through and gets yards, 1st down...maybe goes all the way, but the Saints DBs were playing the WRs up a good part of the game and taking away some options.

the pitch out to Barber on 4th and 1 was a head scratcher. He's the straight up the gut power runner, Felix is supposed to be the speed guy. If anything, i think that situation called for some play action.

4th down and go w/ Beuhler. If Garrett was trying to show Beuhler that he has faith him... OK, but I dunno. It was the safe play though I guess.

But it was also about execution overall, not just this Barber play...nowhere near as good as the last 2 games

I yelled at the tv, "a pitch to the slowest back on the team is stupid!" The TV didn't care. neither does the win-loss record. Barber plays hard, but runs slow.

agreed...he's a JAG at this point. If anyone disagrees, well you have no stats to back it up...his longest run of the season is what...24 yds?

Barber is one of my favorite players but he is a JAG.

He doesn't have it anymore. Oline isn't an excuse either. He just has lost everything.

I don't like that play, but in Garrett's pc he explains that its not meant to be stretched out like that but Saints did a good job covering the a and b gaps.

The other playcalls in this game I don't really have an issue with. This one though? Man, just don't call that play when Barber is in the game.

In that case, maybe it wasn't a bad call. I dunno. I just hate seeing Barber run outside.

To me it was the call, not so much who executed it. Yes I think MB lost a step too, and want to see more of FJ & TC. But this time it was the call more than the player.

Yes , I dont blame Barber at all, he does the best he can,

I put that bad call on the Coach Garrett

You have to call plays that work to the strength of your players and not their weaknesses !

that play call wasn't THAT BAD. Garret thought it through....

The D probably expected Dallas to run it up the gut. Garret knew this and chose the sweep. It just wasn't executed cause Barber SUCKS.

Felix converts that 1494585858 %. It's not on Garrett. Well, he probably should have run it up the gut Barber, so it kinda is. Whatever.
Garrett explained this in detail during his post game. They were stacking the line and the play is a pitch but not necessarily a sweep wide. The play goes outside a bit and then downhill but as Garrett says they did a great job of crashing down as Barber probably figured out around the time he was hurdling over Colombo's body that was laying where he got blown backward.

The blocking is just not dominate at the line and we see this over and over. They have been doing MUCH better in pass protection but they never get a surge on runs.

We needed a yard and the best play for that is a pitch to the worst side of the OL with the slowest RB we have???

Typical JG out smarting himself again. If he does become the HC next year, I hope to God we get a OC who has a better feel for the game.

I really appreciate all that Barber has given this Team over the years.
That said , dude has lost a step.
Why the pitch out to him on 4th and one ?

Did we not see this play not work already agaist the Vikings in the playoff loss last year at a critical jucture ?

We need to sit Barber and see what we have in Choice as the playoff pipedream is now gone.

See, I don't get really mad at Barber, he's going to run the ball because they ask him (regardless of how ineffective it is). I blame the inept playcalling; why in the world this team continues to try to run sweeps with Marion Barber is beyond me.

Yea, there were a couple of calls that were just bizzare. I was sitting there thinking "what the hell are you doing Garrett"???

He really needs to hire an OC to call the plays if he remains the HC.

It's funny, the toss is the play that Barber used to get all his big runs on, and he's always bounced them outside.

However, he used to truck guys. Now they just go for his legs, and he goes down in a heap. I think he's stopped even trying to initiate contact on those plays.

Barber's done. He's got nothing left in him anymore.

Garrett outsmarted himself here. There's a reason they wouldn't see the play coming, because we shouldn't be stupid enough to try it. Give it to Choice there and that's a first

True, but Barber needs to run North and South ONLY

I would have rather Kitna was running it. Give it to Dez on a sweep or something. He'll get you a yard. I can't figure out why Barber is still a big part of our game plan.

my biggest thing was why accept that flag and let them go for 3rd down again when they were gonna be 4th and 1??? I still can't understand that decision.

You mean like he they did earlier in the game, when Bryant fumbled and barely got to the LOS?
