I repeat, we don't need projects right now, we need backups. Plural.
Oh gotcha.

In that case get Vinny on the phone. I heard he can squat Chuck Norris!!

If they see one who appears to have more talent, I am sure they will pull the trigger.
Exactly. That's the key--who's more talented. If they see someone with more potential than Baker, they'll pull the trigger.

we may be drafting a QB

but it might not be with a late rd pick

right now I'd bet we end up using a middle rd pick (3rd, 4th or 5th) on a 3rd QB

David
I agree.

About 1998 we shold have started drafting second day QBs. Small college guys, guys with lots of potential and ability but little experience, etc. One each year or so. If we had done that its very possible we would have had Troys replacement on hand when he had to retire. Starting to do that right now is not a bad idea- if it takes 3-4 years to find one and start developing him then it would be just about right. figure Romo is here for another 5-6 years- so it could work out.

Draft a late round Qb take 4 into camp then let Baker and draftee fight it out for the 3rd spot place the loser on PS and that way we keep 2 "projects" without compromising the roster

For the same reason Green Bay drafted guys Like Brunell, Hasselbeck, and Brooks: 'cause you never know.
Yep...Ron Wolf is a brilliant GM. Those guys never did anything for the Packers on the field, but they got draft picks for them.
