Why would ESPN pay Witten 4 million?

According to this article another network has made Witten an offer? Could it be NBC Sunday Night Football? Interesting story.

1. Because they can
2. He auditioned in front of a live audience who thought he was the #1
3. The offer would need to be substantial enough to pry him from his hall of fame playing career.

They are all still looking for the next John Madden
He was one I really enjoyed because he taught fans about the game. Romo does some of that too
Fans here know what a Mike is, or even a dancing elephant, but may of us learned a lot about the games from watching guys like madden call games

Right. They offered him 10 million.

That has to sting to Witten only being offered 4.

True. Right now I think Witten is doing a lot of soul searching. I think if this was a done deal he would publicly announce he is retiring from the game, yet has said nothing to this point. I think Cowboys value him as a player and a dedicated player for this team that they are giving him time to come to a decision.

Witten is well respected and had a Hall of Fame career. He’s a big name. A lot of Cowboy fans out there and he’ll bring in viewers. He’ll be the fourth big name former Cowboy in the booth.

Troy started out at 500k? Was that when he started calling actual NFL games or was that what he made when he spent an offseason or two (while he was still playing) calling NFL Europe games to prepare for his post-playing career as a broadcaster?
