Wide Receiver as a Top Priority?

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not at all claiming that WR is the top priority, but could be a position we're not closed-minded in considering high. My reasoning:

Scott Linehan's hiring shows us that we will be throwing the ball a ton (like it or not), and maintaining a talented stash of receiving weapons is therefore vital. If we decide to let Miles go, we've got a depth chart looking like this:

Outside WR's: 1) Dez; 2) T-Will; 3) Harris
Slot WR's: 1) Beasley; 2) Harris

Practice squad guys aside, we're hurting for numbers and depth/quality. We will be so passing game dependent that the need for a good/great WR unit is even more important to us than most other teams.

Again, not at all saying I'd prioritize a WR over DT/DE/FS. What I'm saying is I think it's a possibility that if the right WR prospect were hanging around in the 2nd or 3rd round, I wouldn't be surprised if we went for it.

I'm hoping LSU WR Jarvis Landry is a Dallas Cowboy with the Cowboys's 3rd round pick. I wouldn't even mind LSU WR Beckham in the 2nd round. If, for some strange reason, Clemson WR Sammy Watkins would fall to the Cowboys I would be elated. I can dream.

This draft is deep in WRs. Lots of talent at that position. We definitely could use an additional WR. Austin is done. Hopefully, he isn't even here come early March. I don't even want him back at vet min. Injuries can happen to any WR at any time. And you just never know which NFL player wakes up and does something really stupid.

I wouldn't mind picking up a WR inthe 4th round, especially if we used our first 3 draft picks on Dlinemen & Free Safety.

I think if we part with Miles an affordable veteran WR might be i the plans.

I would love to see that as well but I believe LSU's duo Landry & Beckham getting picked inthe 2nd round at worse. This league is way too pass happy for those two to slip through the cracks. Great Talent from both players

Agreed that if Watkins were the pick in the 1st I'd be OK with that.

Beyond that, I do believe we could find 2nd round talent in the 3rd at the WR position. There are a ton of quality underclassmen who declared. Literally almost 20 WR's have starting potential in this draft IMO.

If any of those top 3 guys are available in the first round, I would have no problem with that choice, though it certainly wouldn't be what I'm targeting.

I don't understand this we can pick up a good WR late

Kevin Norwood, WR, 6-2 #200 Alabama - would be the perfect Slot guy IMO

Looking for a WR who has a natural ability to high point the ball in the air? Take a look at Alabama’s Kevin Norwood

this kid is clutch

Norwood would be a perfect WR3 for us actually. Good point. With this WR class I don't think he'll go early but I'm not sure about "late" either. Would be a really nice value in the 4th. I guess my point is I wouldn't even mind a higher rated guy (Landry, Beckham, Matthews, etc.) as early as the 2nd round if it was the right situation, given that our O will be so pass happy.

Norwood hasn't dropped many balls while at Bama and is a really good move the chains type of guy. The kid is money on 3rd downs and throws to the flats while keeping his feet in bounds.

Yes we should pick up a WR but not until at least the 3rd. Quick and fast WRs like Brandin Cooks in the 3rd or Josh Huff in the 4th.

Donte Moncrief is a guy I like a lot and he's never had a QB worth a crap throwing him the ball in college and put up great numbers in the SEC for 3 years. He's 6'5" and can go get the ball, he can prolly be had for a 3rd or 4th round pick too.

This would be my guy as well. He's 6'3" on the Ole Miss bio, but he's still a bull. If not him, I want more of that kind of WR. More Dez Bryant-sized WRs.

But I'm on the fence. I'm interested in getting Dwayne Harris much more involved in the offense, as well as seeing Eric Rogers' development. He looked good in camp.

I like Norwood also but if Marquis Lee WR makes it to our spot in the 1st I hope we at least pause and consider him. He has Dez like talent IMO. I do agree Watkins is better but I would find it hard to pass on this guy.

I just don't see using a top 4 pick on a WR with the bigger needs this team has. I understand you don't reach and try and take the BPA, but I think with Dez, TWill, Harris, Beasley, Witten, Escobar and Murray, how many opportunities is a WR going to have? I look at Seattle, San Fran as the blueprint for success....it isn't WR. We need defense, defense, defense and OL.

Absolutely we will be looking esp if Miles is not going to be around. I do think DL, secondary and LB will be higher priorities.

I'm so sick of hearing about Norwood. He'd be a decent mid-round pick, nothing more, nothing less. Won't give us much more than Harris or Beas, especially with Esco in the mix, so why bother?
