There were some rumours during the season that the staff was very impressed with Jamaica Rector who I think was playing some WR and some CB. Usually this ends up meaning diddly-squat but it'll be interesting to keep an eye out for him in TC and preseason.

indeed, but still, my point remains, not a good contingency plan, maybe in the future, but not as of now

Crayton was coming off a high ankle sprain so it is not surprising his production was poor his first few games back. I thought he showed a bit more towards the end of the season. I would prefer to judge him based on how he was playing at the start of the season when he was healthy.

He should probably be even better next year as he will be healthy and this will only be his 3rd year playing WR. I think he will make a good #3 WR and possibly could develop into a #2 WR before all is said and done.

He does need to learn to protect the ball better.
I like Crayton, but it doesn't mean I'd be opposed to drafting another receiver. He hasn't proven enough to make me think he's the next anything. He had a good half season and that's about it. He's got potential and and maybe this year he'll realize even more of it.

In the meantime, I don't see the harm in bringing in someone who's not just a special teams demon.

I say we draft Travis Wilson from Oklahoma in the 3rd. He reminds me of an Anquan Boldin type with a little more speed.

Ditto ! He's the most underrated WR in this draft and would be an absolute steal in the 3rd round . A. Boldin is a very good comparison of his game .

I'm not sold on Crayton. He played well before his injury, but he had a few crucial drops ... ie: 4th down with 1 minute to play against the Commanders. Michael Irvin would have caught that ball AND gotten the 1st down.

I think we're in a good situation right now where we can draft a WR in the 1st round and let him fight it out for the #3 spot. Let him learn and get ready to take time away from Glenn next year.

Not only do we need to draft a WR this year, we should have been investing more picks - and scouting effort - in the position (and I don't mean foolishly throwing them away like we did on Galloway) the last decade. Our draft record (mostly with 3rd round picks and later) at the WR position has been abysmal.

Continuing to count on 30+ year old players at the position is just whistling past the graveyard.

I definitely think that after T.O., Glenn, and Crayton, the Boys will need several receivers to upgrade the position. I think the Boys need to get rid of Cooper and upgrade the WR position with two young burners, one of which needs to be a KR/PR specialist. Someone like Devin Hester of Miami and Skyler Green of LSU in the later rounds will do quite nicely.
I really would like to see Sanantonio Holmes added to this squad.:star:

We need a legit backup, insurance, and WR of the future. That's teh perfect formula for 1st day draft pick. WR, LB, OT in any order on the first day.

Seems like after the Jimmah days, we've done nothing to address WR ... other than late round draft reaches and UDFA.

Jimmah rolled the dice on Jimmy Smith, Alvin Harper, Kevin Williams, and that other speedster who didn't pan out. But at least he was willing to invest 1st and 2nd round picks on WR's. He understood their importance.

Since then, we've done NOTHING to improve our state other than to bring in older players to replace old players.

I think it's time to reload with some young guns.

Going into free agency everyone agreed that we needed depth at WR.

We upgraded the #1 and #2 WR positions but we didnt upgrade the #3 position and that was what was needed from the start.

TO replaces Glenn at the #1 and Glenn replaces key at #2. So in essence that is upgrading two wide receiver spots. The concern is the #3 if either TO or TG go down....

I would like Moss in the second. He would make our PR game explosive for the first time since Deion and he could act as the #4 receiver for a year or two.

to be fair, Crayton had the 1st down, he fumbled trying to pick up extra yardage, that wasn't a drop

That's not fair - that was a hellacious hit by Taylor who had him lined up perfectly.

Anyhow, why are we comparing Crayton who is our #3 WR and converted QB to a HOF-caliber WR. We are not going to get a HOF-caliber #3 WR in his prime. Probably better to compare him to other #3's around the league (i.e. Randle-El).
